There is a beauty secret I have been using for years now that I am excited to share with you.
This secret is rosehip seed oil. Why is Rosehip Seed Oil Good for Skin?
It’s an incredible oil I use every day for a variety of reasons, but it makes a fantastic skin care product.
The coolest thing about Chemistry Cachet is we share ALL the chemical research on any topic that can help you live better. That includes skincare!
When I was finishing up my chemistry degree, I started digging deeper into beneficial skincare tips. I wanted to find out exactly the chemicals found in common products and natural ones.
This is when I discovered rosehip seed oil.
PIN THIS: Why is Rosehip Seed Oil Good for Skin?
One question I get almost every day from readers, friends, and sometimes random people I meet is: how do I look so young?
There are a few things I do for my skin that help it look younger, but one of my favorite things is using rose hip seed oil.
What exactly is rosehip seed oil?
Rosehip seed oil is a pressed seed oil. It comes from seeds of wild rose bushes. It can be found in Europe and South America.
This oil is different than the rosewater concentrate I have talked about, and it is also different than rose essential oil.
It comes right from the seed.
Chemicals in Rosehip Seed Oil
More specifically a provitamin A. Provitamin A is found in plant pigments like beta-carotene and alpha-carotene.
This vitamin is amazing for anti-aging.
Omega-6 Fatty Acid
An essential fatty acid that are body doesn’t make on it’s own. It has numerous health benefits. Check out this research from the University of Maryland Medical Center.
Omega-3 Fatty Acid
Another essential fatty acid found primarily in fish like tuna and salmon.
There are some amazing chemicals in this oil which is why it is amazing for your skin! Not only is it very beneficial, but it is also one of the cheaper oils. I buy this one on Amazon and it will last many months, even 6-8 months depending on how much I am using it.
Here is How Rose Hip Oil Helps the Skin:
The main reason I started using this was to treat some eczema I have around my eyelids.
I have really dry skin. This has helped tremendously with the dry skin on my face and hands.
Reduces Lines, Wrinkles, and Scars
Rosehip seed oil is great for scarring and lines on the face. I had skin cancer on my face last year that had to be removed. I started putting this oil on it immediately, and you can barely see the scar now.
This is also good for wrinkles or lines you have around the eyes, lips, and forehead.
It can also help with stretch marks!
Evens Skin Tone
Occasionally, I get redness on my face especially on the cheeks. Using this oil along with your regular skincare treatment will really improve the skin tone.
How to Use Rosehip Seed Oil
This works great in place of face cream, but you can also mix it with your current cream to apply all over your face.
I use it at night after I wash my face especially around my eye area where I get eczema.
You can also use it in the morning before applying makeup. I just use a small amount under my eyes, around the forehead, and mouth. Don’t use too much before applying makeup, it will just look greasy!
Be sure to use a good quality brand. This is the only one I use now. I have tried a few others, but this was by far the best quality and very affordable.
It doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive, just not mixed with other ingredients. Look for pure rose hip seed oil. If you don’t get one that has a dropper in it, you can buy those separate (see below in the items). The dropper is really helpful for application.
