When I think of the holidays, my mind instantly gravitates towards cozy evenings at home, with soft lighting permeating the room. Friends and family sitting on the couch, engaging in conversations with delicious smells wafting the air.

Growing up, my mom has always had such a cozy, inviting home. The minute you walk inside her home to this day, it is just pure comfort and joy. The biggest reason for this, aside from her amazing decorating skills, is her love of lamps! She has more lamps than anyone I have ever seen, but they really make her home beautiful.

I am always on the quest to make my home more beautiful and inviting with charm throughout. The easiest way to do that is with lighting! If you are a long time reader of my blog, you know I am constantly doing something with lighting like refurbishing a vintage lantern, making my own fairy lantern, adding lights for ambiance, and even hanging them outside our new pergola.

Each of these elements brought so much more to the space with little effort.

4 Easy Ways To Instantly Make Your Home More Inviting and Charming

4 Easy Ways To Instantly Make Your Home More Inviting and Charming

So, how can you make your home more inviting and charming? Let’s talk about how to achieve this with some fun lighting updates!

Lamps

Adding lamps is the easiest way to update your room  I love making a statement piece out of lamp. Using a shimmery table lamp adds glamor and charm to any room.

Mid-century modern lamps are super charming and will make any space more inviting. I love this desk lamp for an office. I also love this gold one! And this gorgeous antique brass mid-century modern lamp is perfect for bedrooms or living rooms.

The last time of lamp to add to your home is a charming floor lamp. This is a good option to add soft lighting to dark corners which really enhances the cozy aspect of your home.

Change out the light bulbs

Another fun way to get a special glow (for very little money!), is with unique light bulbs. These vintage bulbs are perfect for that. You can add them into any lighting area that is seen, and it not only looks pretty, but adds the best light.

Update lighting fixtures

While adding lamps and updating light bulbs is easy and makes a huge difference, changing out some fixtures is another way to add enchantment to your home without much effort. I am totally into pendant lighting, I think it is beautiful and really adds something special. Vintage Pendant lighting has the perfect cozy feel to it. We added some lighting like this to our entryway, and it completely changed the ambiance of that area.

Overstock has some of the best lighting options for the best price too, I use them for almost everything. These antique gold lantern lights are so fun for a kitchen!

Flush lighting is a perfect choice for dining rooms and bathrooms. I love this gold one, this spiky bronze one, and this beautiful glass one!

Wall Sconces

Wall scones are the epitome of charming and cozy. I love them for indoors and outdoors. If you have ever been into an old Victorian home, you know that the minute you walk inside, it just feels so comforting and cozy. Most of these older homes always had wall scones for lighting, especially in the living areas. It is such a beautiful, easy addition to any room. This candle sconce below is perfect for the holidays too!

It’s amazing how these four things can add so much more depth and elegance to your home without spending too much money on a total update.

That is the only down fall…the pictures! But it does make everything feel so cozy. I always hate rooms that have bright, fluorescent type bulbs, way too harsh!

Thank you for sharing about your mom’s home and the legacy that she clearly passed down to you for making a home cozy. 🙂

I actually have the wall sconce you pictured above! I have one on each side of a beautiful painting I got. It was my first DIY project with spray paint. I bought the textured spray paint in a muted copper type color and it came out sooo good!

Thanks for sharing such an enjoyable post!

I love to use different kinds of lighting, such as uplighting and sconces. I have numerous pairs of sconces that were originally made to hold candles in the 1700-1800s, that I’ve electrified and made shades for. They’re charming. Brenda

I love how much lighting can change the look and feel of a room. Right now, I especially love midcentury lighting, like bubble lamps and spider lights. I also really like can up-lights when they shine through a plant or something with nice texture and throw a cool shadow on the wall.
