I probably spend just as much time working at my coffee table as I do on my desk. Anyone else the same way?
In reality, the living room is the central part of my home. Anytime I have friends over, we always congregate around the coffee table. It’s the place my husband and I always eat breakfast together or eat dinner while we watch a movie.
Two things that always bring me joy are coffee and books, so I love having a coffee table that envelopes the ambiance while being practical and making a statement.
I am collaborating with Chairish today to share with you some essential coffee table elements for the coffee & book lover (or really anyone who loves pretty things 🙂 )
I have many brown, gold and amber tones in my living room, so I love incorporating those colors in my decor as well.
Books!
All coffee tables need pretty books. I love to add a mix of vintage with some old favorites. Little House on the Prairie was one of my favorite books as a kid, and this leather bound edition is so pretty! Obviously, if you love coffee, you need a book about coffee too. The Curious Barista’s Guide to Coffee is really fun to look at! And of course, a little vintage Vogue: The Covers book thrown in is the perfect combination.
Trays!
I have to have a big tray on my coffee table to hold remote controls, candles, flowers or anything else.
Coasters!
Coasters are always a must for a coffee table. I love ceramic and metallic ones for added texture.
Candles!
I have so many candles around my living room, but I love to save the pretty ones for the coffee table. I don’t necessarily even light them, but I love the way they look and smell.
Flowers!
Flowers are something I always have to incorporate in my home. For the coffee table I really love a small, short vase with a bright bouquet inside.
Cute Mug
And all coffee lovers need a favorite mug! I adore this chemistry one. I have it in white and it always makes me happy 🙂

We use to have a coffee table and it seemed to be used as a foot rest which drove me crazy. So when I replaced my furniture I replaced the coffee table with an ottoman instead. My pretty things are now on the dining room table on a tray. Now I am not so crazy and everyone gets to put their feet up. You have some nice picks here.
Alexis says
We tend to put our feet on it too much as well! I am always telling my husband to get his huge feet off lol. And of course Ruger loves all the things I put on the table. I love ottomans! They are so pretty!

When we lived with all of our children, the coffee table was always covered with books, remotes, laptops. Yep, what better place to put them :/
I always thought it looked junky but we lived in the LR. Well, now that my husband and I are empty nesting, I only have one tray on the coffee table with a few nick-knacks on it (and we absolutely live in this room!). It looks neat and clean, and it’s easier to dust, so I haven’t added anything else but I think it needs a pick me up! I’ll be taking a look at some ideas on that Vintage page you suggested. 🙂

I always hate when everything starts getting junkie! It gets hard with all my husbands stuff he piles on it, but I try to make it a habit to clean off everyday 🙂 I think less is definitely more too! Neat and clean!

Cookbooks are always a nice touch too! Sometimes I rotate out magazines and cookbooks with travel books too! Anything with pretty pictures is the best 🙂

I can’t wait to get new furniture to up my coffee table game! I really want a nice big farmhouse one and of course everything you mentioned above! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes
Alexis says
ooo I love farmhouse elements too! They are so welcoming!

Ohhhh that coffee table is gorgeous! My coffee table is looking pretty bare at the moment, it could definitely use a pretty tray to liven it up!
Alexis says
Trays always add the best touch to a coffee table 🙂

My coffee table seems to be the antithesis of yours… small piles of stuff that I “try” to clear off every day/week. I have notepads and pens for idea/list scribbbling, a bottle of lotion, William Shatner’s book , coasters made from recycled materials, gallon bottle of water to remember to stay hydrated, and a bag of Ann’s treats… Suddenly I have to urge to purge and clean it up… goal? Ours is a two-layered table, but let’s not talk about what’s down below… Enjoy, have a great day!
Alexis says
Oh yeah, my below area needs so help! I feel like the bottom just catches everything lol! Have a wonderful day!
Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis says
i love that coffee table with the metal top. The tray would look super cute on any coffee. Mine just has coasters and a candle.
Alexis says
That tray is so cute and really stands out! I love the metal top too! It is so versatile…and strong against puppy chewing! 🙂

Hey! Just found you from the SITS Sharefest, and I love your list! I’m in search of a rustic wood tray with handles. I love that spring is here to be able to pick some fresh flowers. Do you have a favorite candle company? I love Candelles, and we also are a big fan of Sydney Hale candles.
Alexis says
I love getting to pick fresh flowers too! That is just the best having them around the house! I really have a big list of candles I love, but my favorite right now are these local Texas handmade candles I recently discovered at the store. All the scents are about my area and seasonal, so I really love that. I have heard of Candelles, but haven’t tried them. I need to check them out! So happy you stopped by, have a great day!

I gave up having a coffee table when my girls were pulling up and starting to walk…too many bumped noggins. They are 13 and almost 11….I think I forgot what fun a coffee table can be! Lol! We have this awful chair and ottoman that needs to go AWAY…maybe we can get a coffee table after that happens. This post makes me want one again! Lol!
Alexis says
Coffee tables can definitely be fun to play around with! My dog is finally at the age where he isn’t constantly grabbing things off and chewing it up lol. I hope you can get one soon to decorate! 🙂

I like coasters too! Normally, our coffee table has a couple magazines / catalogues, a Kindle, the remotes, a box of kleenex, some random papers on it! When guests come and I serve something, I put out coasters and napkins. I like to carry snacks over in a tray. I love that coffee table. Our has a rustic top and black steel legs. I love the mix of rustic and industrial.
Alexis says
I agree, rustic and industrial is such a great combination! I love serving little snacks in a tray too! That is the best way and it looks so pretty. I always do coffee or tea for guest like that as well! 🙂

I only recently added a table back to the family area since my kids liked the wide open space to play around. I added a tray and flowers, so all I need is a nice candle.
Alexis says
I bet that is nice having a little area to add some pretty things to again! I didn’t have a coffee table when we first got married many (many) years ago, and that was something I was excited about having again!
Holly says
Hi Alexis! Awesome post, every coffee table needs essentials books with gorgeous pictures to top if off!
Alexis says
I agree!! Thanks Holly!
