This is one of my favorite donut recipes! It is the perfect texture, flavor, and good for you too.
These allergy-free baked donuts are perfect for anyone with dietary restrictions.
I shared a picture of this on instagram a few weeks ago, and there were so many readers asking for the recipe. So, I wanted to do a post for you!
Many of my friends and family have health issues which hinders them from eating the things they love. My husband has a HUGE sweet tooth, but since he doesn’t have a colon anymore , he struggles with diet and can’t eat things traditionally.
I have many close friends who have allergies to gluten and eggs, so that makes it even harder to enjoy your favorite treats.
Luckily, that is where Chemistry Cachet comes in. We take chemistry and allow for substitutes in your favorite desserts. I share more baking recipes on Chemistry Cachet because that is where science is happening. Cooking isn’t as hard to come up with better recipes because very little chemistry is going on. To get more cooking recipes, feel free to follow on instagram or snapchat where I share them often.
Baking is a complete scientific process, so you have to be precise about what you put together.
Here is this amazing allergy-friendly donut recipe. Stay tuned after the recipe for some chemist tips!
PIN THIS:
- 1 cup gluten-free oat flour ***
- 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/3 cup coconut sugar, heaping
- Dash salt
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 4 tbsp melted coconut oil
- 2/3 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk
- 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Spray a donut pan with cooking spray and set aside.
- In a large bowl, mix all the dry ingredients (top 4 ingredients) in a bowl until combined. The coconut sugar needs to be a little more than 1/3 cup for the best taste, so make it a heaping 1/3 cup.
- In a separate bowl, mix all the wet ingredients until thoroughly combined.
- Add the dry to the wet ingredients, stir until just combined.
- Spoon evenly into all 6 of the donut molds.
- Bake 14-15 minutes.
- Turn over gently onto wire rack to cool.
- Top with icing or eat plain!
- ***You can also use all-purpose gluten-free flour. See chemist tips below.
Chemist Tips on Allergy-Free Donuts
Oat flour is my favorite tool for healthy baking. You can make your own with gluten-free oats. Just pulse them in a food processor until a powder forms. I also like to use this brand. Oat flour is so fluffy, yet dense when it bakes. Perfect for cakes, cookies, donuts, and cupcakes. If you are new to gluten-free baking, I highly recommend oat flour.
If you don’t have oat flour, feel free to use your favorite all-purpose gluten-free flour like the one in this brownie recipe.
Instead of eggs, coconut oil is used for this recipe. The healthy fat binds all the ingredients together without the need for egg protein. Find more egg-free baking tips here. Remember to use REFINED coconut oil to eliminate any coconut flavor. You can find organic refined coconut oil in most stores.
We shared these dairy-free baking tips last year, and I mentioned almond milk. I use almond milk on any recipe that calls for regular milk. It is always a 1:1 ratio substitution. Almond milk is also really creamy and thick, so I prefer it in baked goods. Feel free to sub coconut milk or cashew milk too.
The best part of these donuts is the homemade vanilla extract. Homemade vanilla has such a great, intense flavor!
SUGAR
If you missed this detailed post on sugar, check it out here. Coconut sugar is a great option because it has a low glycemic index, but still has a sweet flavor. If you have issues with sugar, use baking stevia instead. Just make sure to use a dry sweetener, not a wet one like honey or maple syrup.
Enjoy these great allergy-friendly donuts!
