I have searched for years to find an aluminum-free deodorant with effective ingredients that actually works, and for the last year I have been using this one.
It is officially the only non-toxic deodorant I have used that rivals the traditional deodorant.
Today, I want to share with you the ingredients plus how I have been using it.
This is not a sponsored post in anyway, just my personal investigating and researching 🙂
My Favorite Aluminum-Free Deodorant With Effective Ingredients
I have tried so many aluminum-free deodorants over the last five years or so, but out of all the ones I have used, this is the only one I liked.
All the others left me way more sweaty and didn’t deodorize at all, and many of them left stains worse than traditional deodorant.
Last year, I finally tried Native brand deodorant, and I was impressed.
Not only does it minimize sweat, but it smells nice all day without the gel or wet texture many “natural” deodorants use. I have been using it for over a year now, so I thought it was time to share it with you.
Ingredients in Native Deodorant
From their website, the ingredients in Native deodorant are:
Caprylic/capric triglyceride, tapioca starch, ozokerite, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), magnesium hydroxide, coconut oil, cyclodextrin, shea butter, dextrose, and L. Acidophilus (probiotic). Our scented deodorants include a proprietary blend of oils
To break this down a little, caprylic/capric triglyceride is made from combining coconut oil with glycerin. It is a common ingredient found in natural soaps and skincare. The tapioca starch, ozokerite and baking soda are what give it the absorption. Ozokerite is a natural wax.
Magnesium hydroxide is used both orally and topically for treating a variety of things. It is a powdery substance.
If you remember from our post about air fresheners, cylcodextrin is made from corn and it is a great odor absorber.
They also have L. Acidophilus which is a probiotic!
How does it compare to traditional deodorant?
It is very comparable to the traditional deodorant, but it doesn’t last as long. I have noticed it does wear off by the end of the day, but traditional will last longer for me. This is really the only difference I have seen. For me, it works just as well to minimize sweat and smells fresh most of the day.
What about homemade deodorant?
I love making homemade things if they work as well as store-bought. Our DIY cleaners are all you find in my house because I love them, and they work. I make many homemade skincare products too. But I don’t share anything homemade unless I 100% love it and think it is just as good as store-bought. Unfortunately, I do not like homemade deodorants! I have made many versions with many bases, but was not impressed with any of them. So, I don’t have a homemade deodorant to share with you. If one works for you, that is great! They just don’t do it for me. This is why I have been on a search for so long for an aluminum-free deodorant.
Is is worth the price point?
If you are serious about aluminum-free deodorants, then yes it is. All natural deodorants like this are more expensive. Many readers have come to me over the years searching for non-toxic, aluminum-free deodorants that work. So, this is the one I recommend!
Do I exclusively use aluminum-free deodorant?
No, I don’t. If I run out of this, I just use traditional deodorant. Before I started using Native brand, I ended up throwing away the more non-toxic deodorants I was using, and would switch back to traditional. My grocery store doesn’t always have this, so I also buy it on Amazon. If you have never tried an aluminum-free deodorant, this one is worth a try!
Is Aluminum harmful for you in deodorant?
There is a lot of misinformation about this online. There are many contradicting studies on this too. But more than anything, aluminum can cause irritation on the skin and itching. If you have skin sensitivities, you might have issues with traditional deodorant. This makes a good option! As far as long term issues with aluminum based deodorant, I would read this article from Healthline which goes a more in-depth on the medical side of it. I also read a study once that said this information was misconstrued and it said that women who are going through breast cancer treatments should avoid aluminum deodorant, not that the aluminum caused the breast cancer. Either way, if you decided to try an aluminum free deodorant, I wanted to share my favorite one with you!
I just like to eliminate chemicals if possible by trying more non-toxic alternatives. If I find something that actually works, then I love sharing it with you and using it personally!

I agree 100%! I love Native deodorant. It gets me through a rigorous spin class with out a stink! After using it for about two years I did have to switch to the Sensitive line of Native. I developed a rash from the Baking Soda in it which is fairly common. I’m sure it was from a hormonal change in my body. The Sensitive line works just as well and the scents are amazing.

It is great! I have used the sensitive line also and it is great.

Hi,
I couldn’t reply to your email to ask this question. So,
I was wondering if you have a recipe of Scentiva Clorox Spray. The one you use in the kitchen to wipe down the counters . I just ran out and would like to make it.
Alexis says
They use the Alkyl ( C12 40%; C14 50%; C16 10%) Dimethyl Benzyl Ammonium Chloride as the disinfecting ingredient which is a pretty common one for clorox and Lysol. We have two disinfecting sprays on our website. The DIY Lysol and our regular disinfecting spray. You can’t replicate the ammonium chloride at home, but the other two are great. You can change out essential oils for the scent to match what you like.
Sheri says
Thank you. But I don’t want to buy so much of the essential oils .
I thought you had one that used Lysol concentration . I buy 2 small ones at the $1.00 tree.
Alexis says
No, the homemade versions are to eliminate the store-bought chemicals. Essential oils aren’t necessary 🙂 they are only for scent.

Native deodorant starts off smelling great and then after a while clothes become very smelly, had to stop using it
Alexis says
Hmm this hasn’t happened to me before, I have used it for years. It is the only natural deodorant that has worked for me though, the others leave a bad discoloration on clothing

Absolutely love my Native deodorant. This is my first time trying it and purchased the eucalyptus & mint which smells great and lasts for the whole day. Love that the ingredients are natural and paraben and aluminum free. Have tried so many other aluminum free products and none have compared to this one. It is more expensive but has lasted a long time and is worth the extra cost.
Alexis says
I totally agree! It’s been my favorite too and actually lasts all day. I’m so glad you like it too
