Reading has always been a hobby of mine starting way back when I was a little girl. In fact, going to the library was one of my favorite activities to do in the summer!
I spent so many years only having the chance to read intense academic books in college and now that I am free from those chains, reading is something I do to relax! Some think because I am an academic writer, I only read educational books, but that is definitely not true! One of my goals the past few years has been to read more and enhance my home library.
I just finished reading Astor Place Vintage and it was the perfect mix of fun, historical, and enjoyable. I don’t share many book reviews with you, but this book really struck me as unique and worth the read.
Astor Place Vintage Book Review
Purchase: Astor Place Vintage: A Novel
Summary: “Amanda Rosenbloom, proprietor of Astor Place Vintage, thinks she’s on just another call to appraise and possibly purchase clothing from a wealthy, elderly woman. But after discovering a journal sewn into a fur muff, Amanda gets much more than she anticipated. The pages of the journal reveal the life of Olive Westcott, a young woman who had moved to Manhattan in 1907. Olive was set on pursuing a career as a department store buyer in an era when Victorian ideas, limiting a woman’s sphere to marriage and motherhood, were only beginning to give way to modern ways of thinking. As Amanda reads the journal, her life begins to unravel until she can no longer ignore this voice from the past. Despite being separated by one hundred years, Amanda finds she’s connected to Olive in ways neither could ever have imagined.”
Review: I really connected to Amanda, the modern day owner of a vintage clothing store. She has a unique passion for a by gone era, and finding an old journal really sparks in her a reason to keep going in life. I love how it goes from her point of view to the journal author’s, Olive, point of view. It has a unique twist at the end that really brought the two stories together. If you are anything like me and love anything vintage or historical with a little romance, I think you will really enjoy it!
