Chemist Tips on Turmeric

Turmeric is an interesting spice found in the ginger family.

I started using turmeric years ago to help with rheumatoid arthritis inflammation. You can add it to food for spice, smoothies, and drinks like this. Turmeric has been studied for decades to help with inflammation and pain associated with arthritis.

Other Health Benefits of Turmeric

In addition to fighting inflammation, turmeric has dozen of other uses for health.

  • Depression
  • Diabetes
  • Bowel diseases
  • Skin issues
  • Obesity

How Turmeric Works

One of the key chemicals in turmeric is Curcumin. There have been dozens of studies over the last few decades showing how this chemical works with your bodies immune response to reduce inflammation. It works similar to many anti-inflammatory drugs.

Turmeric studies have been around forever. I read this interesting article from the early 1900s on the chemical composition of turmeric! So, the science on turmeric has been  happening for centuries.

This research article has some fantastic information showing how curcumin blocks inflammatory cytokines involved in joint destruction. It also blocked nitric oxide around joints which causes additional pain and inflammation.

It has also been showed to aide in repairing damaged cells which is why it can help with some many other issues along with inflammation in the body.

With all these amazing benefits, I am all about adding it to my diet as much as possible. That is why I am loving turmeric latte!

Enjoy!!
