It has been awhile since I did an FAQ or an about me post. I thought it was a great time to catch up on some questions I get asked often about me or Chemistry Cachet. You can also hope over to my about me page that has some new updates to it. My husband is doing more work for the blog behind the scenes, so I wanted to make sure to include a little bio for him too!
The newsletter has grown so much this past year, and I get so many requests and questions each time I send one out. Some of these are such great questions, I wanted to do a post for everyone to read.
Chemistry Cachet’s FAQ’s
How long have you been blogging?
Getting close to the 2 year mark now!
Why did you start this blog?
Honestly, there are so many reasons, yet none in particular. I wanted to do something to help others that were suffering with health problems, but also just share tips with people in general. I enjoyed helping my friends make healthier choices for living with my chemistry knowledge, so I wanted to do the same thing online.
What is Chemistry Cachet about?
Our motto here is “Chemist solutions for healthy living, easy baking, pretty flowers, and endless coffee!” That includes fun chemist solutions, baking tips, garden tips, and of course, coffee! Anything I have learned as a chemist to save you time, money, and better living choices, you will find it here!
You’ve mentioned your husband has health problems, what does he have?
Visit my about me page to read a little more about him. He has suffered from severe health problems since we were first married over nine years ago. After a long battle with ulcerative colitis, he lost his entire colon in 2010. Although he no longer has UC, he has many limitations with diet and still struggles with problems.
He is one of my biggest sources of inspirations for recipes.
How long have you had Rheumatoid Arthritis?
I was diagnosed at 10 years old, so it will be 20 years in a few months.
What medications do you take for RA?
Over the last 20 years, I have taken almost every type, brand, and form of medication available. I have learned the hard way how to take things and what works, what doesn’t. Lifestyle changes, diet changes, and taking many supplements have allowed me to me medication free right now!
Feel free to contact me if you have more questions about that.
You are so tan, how do you stay that way?
Well, I am part Native American, so I get dark quick in the sun. I am outside most of the year gardening, walking, working with my husband, and anything else I can do outdoors. I love being outside!
Do you blog full-time?
Yes! When I first began blogging, I also did tutoring and academic consulting. I still do that occasionally, but this blog is definitely a full-time job.
What camera do you use?
I have a Nikon D5300 and use this 50mm for most blog photos.
How old is Ruger?
Ruger (the bulldog) will be three years old in March!
When did you start baking?
I started really learning how to bake when my husband and I were first married. Most is self-taught, but some are from family. You can read more about my love of cooking in this post.
Are you a sweet fan like your husband?
Not much. I like an occasional treat, but most things I bake are for family and friends 🙂
These are questions I get asked often through email and social media, if you have any other questions, I would to hear them 🙂 Have a great day!

I’ve always wondered about your tan! I wish I always had one! I’d love to know how you keep your teeth so white too? 🙂
Alexis says
Haha thank you!! 🙂 I get this question a lot too. Honestly, I am a little fanatical about my teeth. I brush often, floss, mouth wash, and get cleanings every 6 months!! I’ve been doing that since I was young.

LOVE FAQs and “About Me” pages! Partially it’s because I’m nosy, but I also want to know about others, their habits/hacks, and maybe a technique can work/inspire for me! I know you’ve been an inspiration/encourager to me.
Chemist solution question for you – do you have a formula for window cleaner? I use brand “W****x”. I have problems with cutting the pesky thin film/grease on the windows, especially in the kitchen and on the inside of the car windows. I’ve heard of using white vinegar and water, paper towels, rags, newspapers – what do you use?
Alexis says
I love them too! So fun learning new things from people 🙂
I have an awesome recipe in the book coming out soon! I actually have two that I really like, one works for windows outside. The other is really great for indoor mirrors, glass tops, and any type of furniture. I have a hard time with window cleaners from the store since they don’t do well cleaning off stuck on things! And my desk is glass….so it gets so dirty lol

I didn’t realize you were blogging full time now!! Congratulations!!!

Thank you! I had to scale back on my other business since the blog takes up so much time, but I have really enjoyed it 🙂

Last night was the first time I stumbled across your blog, and just wanted to say I really like it! Today I will make lemon infused rubbing alchol to use for reusable disinfecting wipes. Do you have a recipe for DIY lysol disinfectant spray? Thanks for your time and thanks for all this useful information! I’ve recently started my trip into detoxifing my home and skincare products.
Alexis says
So happy to have you join us Patricia!! I don’t have anything exactly like lysol right now, but I do have a few homemade sprays in the eBook. You can also use the lemon alcohol for disinfecting. Or our 2 ingredient tea tree oil spray that works for so many things.

Where would you suggest I go to learn hard chemistry as an adult?
Incidentally, the desire to learn into adulthood you experienced is the same innate desire that caused us as children to learn to walk and talk. It’s the theory behind ungraded primary schools. Traditional grade-based education seems designed to beat this curiosity out of us, but I digress….
Thank you for your time and thoughts.

I am not sure…in my area, the only places you could go would be the University or the Junior College. The university would be expensive and take a while to get into, but our junior college is simple and quick, and just about anyone can take classes there. Other than that, I wouldn’t be familiar with another avenue for adults.
