Cherries are so amazing right now, plus they have been really cheap at the grocery store. My eyes are always bigger than my stomach, so I end up buying way too many pounds of cherries, and have to come up with creative ways to use them up!
Last week, I shared this rustic crisp featuring some beautiful cherries. Today, I am sharing with you one of my favorite smoothies!
Something about cherries and chocolate just makes me feel like I am having something really decadent 🙂
Chocolate Cherry Smoothie
- 8 ripe cherries, pitted
- 1/2 ripe banana
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder **
- 1 cup unsweetened vanilla almond milk (or your favorite milk)
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (I use vegan)
- 1 tbsp chia seeds
- Dairy-free chocolate chips, melted
- A few tsp of honey (optional)
- 1 cup ice (optional)
Directions:
Blend everything until smoothie! You can dip some cherries in the melted chocolate and place on top, or just pour some melted chocolate on top to get the chocolate covered effect 🙂 Top with whipped cream of desired.
Chemist Note: You can use regular cocoa powder or dutch processed cocoa powder which has a richer, more brownie like taste 🙂 If you are interested in learning more about cocoa powder, check out this post!
In case you missed how I pit cherries, here it is below! I use a strong plastic strong, and just push them out. Works good and it makes it go fast!
What is your favorite fruit and chocolate combination? I think chocolate goes with just about all fruits 🙂

I have some cherries that I threw in the freezer because I was afraid they would go bad before I got around to using them, I’m thinking frozen cherries would be delicious in this cause they would add some more milkshake texture! Thanks for another yummy recipe 🙂

Frozen cherries would be awesome to use! You probably wouldn’t even need ice 🙂 Great Idea!
