This homemade natural christmas stovetop potpourri or stovetop “simmer” is super easy to make, but adds a very comforting scent to your home!
You can package these ingredients in a jar or decorative container to give as gifts too.
A stovetop simmer reminds me of an old-fashioned Christmas with the natural scents of oranges and cranberries permeating the air.
You will enjoy this too!
Homemade Natural Christmas Stovetop Potpourri
Here is how you can make it too.
Ingredients Needed:
- 3 Oranges, Sliced
- 1 Bag of Fresh Cranberries
- 4 Cinnamon Sticks ( I recommend these which is a great deal and they smell strong)
- 1 tbsp Cloves
- 1/4 tsp Nutmeg
- 1 tsp Vanilla
- 10 drops of Christmas Essential Oil (optional)
- Large Dutch Oven or Pot (this is my favorite one)
** As requested, I am making Amazon lists for projects, so you can find all the ingredients needed for this homemade stovetop potpourri here.
Directions:
- Fill the Dutch oven or large pot about 2/3 full with water. Tap water is perfect for this.
- Add in cranberries and oranges first, then the rest of the ingredients.
- Turn the burner to medium high and let the solution come almost to boiling. When it starts to bubble, turn the burner down to low and allow the solution to simmer.
How Long Will This Stovetop Potpourri Last?
You can actually use this for several days. At night, turn the burner off and you can place the pot inside the fridge to keep it fresh. Take it out the next day and simmer again. When the ingredients start to lose their scent, this is when you will need to make a fresh batch.
Give This Out As Christmas Gifts For Neighbors!
If you want to create a special gift for friends and neighbors, you can actually package up all the ingredients in a festive container. All the ingredients will keep for a long time when you leave the oranges whole.
Here are some tags you can print out and attach to make it easy.
I hope you enjoy making this as much as I do! It is a simple, natural way to bring some Christmas magic to your home. Plus, you can play around with the ingredients to see what you like best.
