Two ingredient coconut green tea?? It’s true! The perfect summery, refreshing drink!
This is the first official post of a new series, Mix it Up Monday! I have so many fun drink recipes to share with you, I decided to make it official. After all, that is what a chemist does best right? Concocting new mixtures 🙂
Last Monday, I posted a really simple iced coffee recipe that I love (found here). Today I’ve got an easy summer drink that is sure to bring a spark back in to your afternoon.
As much as I love coffee (which is A LOT), I happen to love green tea just as much. The health benefits are unbelievable and it has just enough caffeine to get you going. I know I said before that I am not a fan of Starbuck’s coffee (read here), but their iced venti green tea unsweetened is where it’s at! Price wise, not so much though. Making green tea at home, is just as easy. The flavor combinations are endless too! And who doesn’t love caffeine? I sure do, it’s a chemical after all and completely necessary for the beginning of the week.
My most recent obsession is coconut green tea! This has a few ingredients, that’s it! You can even add in some rum extract if you want to make it a mocktail. For that matter, you could really pump it up with a little rum.
Iced Coconut Green Tea
♥8 oz boiling water
♥2 green tea bags (any type, but I love coconut green tea)
♥16 oz coconut flavored sparkling water or flavored water
♥Frozen pineapple chunks
♥1/8 tsp rum extract (optional)**
Steep the tea bags according to directions. Let it cool or pop it in freezer for a few minutes. Add extract if you wish. Fill a glass with ice and frozen pineapple. Add 4 oz of the cooled tea with 8 oz of the flavored water. Garnish with fresh pineapple 🙂
**Chemist note → Extract is a fantastic way to add different flavors to almost anything. I have a plethora of extracts in my kitchen for everything from baking to drinks to cooking.
I’m not sure what it is about the flavor combination of coconut and green tea, but it just works! Follow along with me on twitter and bloglovin‘ so you can get new drink recipes every Monday.

Are you a green tea fan or do you prefer other teas?

That sounds so good! I’m generally not a coconut fan, but I bet paired with green tea it wouldn’t bother me! Yum!

My husband hates coconut as well! The smell makes him want to gag haha! I love coconut! The coconut isn’t as strong when mixed with green tea. You can always use different flavor combos though 🙂

This sounds so tropical and refreshing! I think I’m going to love this series! I love getting iced teas out (Dunkin Donuts is my favorite) but it adds up quickly. Love the idea of using extracts.
