Tips and Ideas on how to transform a small corner area into a cute little garden for cheap! chemistrycachet.com

Today I want to share with you our latest project. How To Transform A Boring Backyard Corner for little money! This project was almost free for us! We just used things we had around the house and purchased a few plants!

Everyone on Instagram asks about this area when I share a story, so I wanted to share a great post for you today.

How To Transform A Corner Into A Cute Little Garden For Cheap!

How To Transform A Boring Backyard Corner for LITTLE money! Turn any corner of your yard into a pretty little garden! on chemistrycachet.com

I love having sweet little unexpected garden areas around the yard. They add depth and beauty, plus they just make the yard more inviting. We love honeysuckle in the summer, so one of our number one projects was to add some this year.

Be sure to check out our backyard inspiration category for more ideas!

So, here is what we did…

First

We put up lattice into the corner area. Of course, spray paint was a part of this project…a chemist loves spray paint for everything!

Second

Next, we tilled up the soil to make it easier for planting. Then, we walked around our property and found as many rocks as we could to use as a rock border.

Transform an ugly corner by the fence into a cute little garden for little money! I let my husband do the digging…we live on solid rock so this required some back work! Instead of laying down the rocks, we decided to dig a view inches down to stand them up vertically. With the bulldog running around, we didn’t want them to get knocked over.

Add a border with natural rock from around your house for no moneyI love the look of this natural rock border. It has a unique curvature and raw look which I love!

We planted two types of honeysuckle to add different colors to the area, coral honeysuckle and the traditional type for our area which is white and yellow.

Other affordable elements we added were:

  • Red Mulch (About $2.00 a bag and we used one bag)
  • Bird Bath (We already had this, but you can purchase cheap ones at the thrift store!)
  • DIY planter (found here)
  • Planter hooks on the corner posts
  • Geranium in a hanging planter (tips on geraniums)

One of the planter hooks I keep a hanging geranium on for added color. It is a pretty little white and coral one that I divided from a larger plant. Another tip, dividing plants is a free way to get more plants (post on that soon too)!

The other planter hook I use to hang a lantern on at night, either my vintage lantern or DIY fairy lantern.

I also use a bird feeder for the other one!

Our next backyard project is our pergola which is almost finished! I can’t wait to share that with you soon! UPDATE: We finished PERGOLA! Read how we did it here!

You can read about more of my favorite backyard elements here.

Have a wonderful day!

I love honeysuckle and so agree that having a space like this makes the yard more welcoming! Like you, we have rocks everywhere and I’ve kept one that my cat loves to sit on and act like he’s King of the yard!.

Aw that is so cute! Ruger loves rocks too…although he usually knocks them over. That is why we decided to dig a border rather than just lay the rocks down lol.

You just gave me an idea to do in one corner of our yard. Although it will require plants that won’t easily die by my lack of a green thumb.

Oh good Michelle! I bet you could find some shrubs that do well in your area…just plant and that’s it! In Texas, we have a few different ones they require zero maintenance once you plant them. Those are the best!

Alexis – This is fabulous! I LOVE the standup, naturally irregular border you planned out. Love your ideas for this corner garden… so pretty! Ruger wants to enjoy his yard, too… Have a good one!

Thanks Laurie! It is definitely bulldog proof now…just this morning he went over there to play & trample over everything, but the border is standing! 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

An arbor sounds beautiful! I look forward to seeing your post! We are building a pergola as well for another part of the yard, it adds so much more depth to the yard. I have been wanting to add an arbor near my roses as well. Thank you! Have a great day!
