This dairy-free EGG-FREE egg nog recipe is a must for this holiday season!
Have you ever tried egg nog? I used to be freaked out about it because of the word egg….I thought EW how can that be good?
Then, I tried some one year and was blown away how DELICIOUS it was. It was like a milkshake with so many spices and super creamy.
Last Christmas, I shared a little snippet of my “egg” nog on instagram stories, and so many of my readers responded saying they hated egg nog! Or they said how can you have that dairy-free? So, this Christmas, I want to share with you this delicious dairy-free egg-free egg nog recipe that is not only delicious, but good for you! If you like holiday spices and milkshakes, this is perfect.
Dairy-Free Egg-Free “Egg” Nog Recipe
A few years ago, I bought some almond nog from the store, and it was really good! I loved the creamy texture and taste. It was just like egg nog! It had some additives to make it creamy though, so I didn’t want to buy it again….
I thought using coconut milk would be a better option because of how thick it is!
By blending the coconut milk, it makes it even creamier and frothy!
Here is the recipe:
- 1 cup chilled canned coconut milk
- 3 tbsp maple syrup
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice
- Nutmeg
- Add all ingredients except the nutmeg to a blender.
- Blend on high until frothy.
- Pour in a glass, then top with nutmeg
Substitutions:
♦ Milk Option
You CAN use almond milk, but it doesn’t turn out very creamy. I recommend getting canned coconut milk for this. It doesn’t have much of a coconut flavor either, so don’t worry about it being too coconutty 🙂
I used regular fat, but you can try low fat coconut milk if you would like.
♦ Maple Syrup
To get the real egg nog like taste, maple syrup is the best option. It also works good for anyone on a paleo diet. Honey is NOT a good substitution for this because it will make the flavor not like egg nog. You can try brown sugar if you have that on hand, but it won’t be good for special diets.
♦ Spices
Pumpkin pie spice is easy to use because it has multiple spices in it to get that traditional flavor. You can use a combination of any spices you have on hand though. Nutmeg is perfect for the top of this! By blending this up in a blender, it will distribute the spices evenly in the thick coconut milk. You can use less spice if you don’t like it very strong.
♦ Vanilla Extract
I love vanilla best in this, but you can also try hazelnut or almond extracts! I make my own vanilla extract.
This serves ONE, but you can easily double or triple recipe if you want to make it for multiple people!
If you make this, I would love to hear how you like it! Tag #chemistrycachet in your instagram post!
