Thank you to Force of Nature for sponsoring this post #FONCleans #ad
Today, we are going to discuss how to safely and effectively disinfect your home with Force of Nature.
Many years ago, I shared Force of Nature with Chemistry Cachet readers. In 2020, everyone suddenly became aware of disinfecting their homes and surfaces. Readers wanted to make sure they were actually killing germs, but they didn’t want to use harsh chemicals in the process!
This is where Force of Nature comes in, and it continues to be one of the most requested brands for me to test and research.
Let’s talk more about Force of Nature cleaner.
How To Safely and Effectively Disinfect Your Home With Force of Nature
How Exactly Does Force of Nature Work?
Let’s share the quick science on this. Force of Nature works through a mechanism of electrolyzed water. This water is a result of applying an electrical current to salt water. When you open up your package from Force of Nature, you will find little capsules of sodium chloride 20.9% (this is salt). You pour water into the electrical device they send, then pour the capsule of salt into the water.
When you turn the device on, it begins to electrolyze or split the elements. This results in a solution that is a disinfectant and a strong detergent. This is referred to as hypochlorous acid.
2 NaCl(s) + 2 H20(l) β 2 NaOH(aq) + H2(g) + Cl2(g)
It will work as both for about two weeks before the solution turns back into water.
The hypochlorous acid is the key to this type of product, and this is what gives it disinfecting properties. Don’t let the name scare you though, hypochlorous acid is very gentle and mild! It is safe to touch and no rinsing is needed when you use it.
Here is how to use Force of Nature for Cleaning and Disinfecting:
For cleaning, simply spray and wipe off the surface. For disinfecting hard surfaces, saturate the area with Force of Nature spray AFTER you clean it. Allow the solution to sit for 10 minutes, and wipe off anything remaining. If the surface has already air dried, that is fine! Don’t forget cleaning and disinfecting are always separate steps regardless of what product you are using. Always clean the surface first, then disinfect.
The great thing about Force of Nature is you can use it on any surface! You can get 40% off bundles right now with code WOWCLEAN!
Use it for kid’s toys and items
You can use it to clean and disinfect children’s toys, high chairs, or any items they use! Follow the directions above for cleaning and disinfecting. No rinsing needed!

Toilet disinfecting

This sounds like an interesting product. I think I would like to try it. It seems that a lot of things get held up at the US/Canada border at customs. Will I have to pay customs charges with this product. Given our current exchange rate — about 30% — this product will be quite expensive to purchase and if there will also be customs charges, it may be too expensive to justify purchasing. Are there any Canadian outlets selling this system?
Alexis says
Hi Karen! Wow, I didn’t know you had to do that for sending things to Canada! To my knowledge, I don’t know of any Canadian chains or outlets that sell this one. I checked their website and it looks to be just US based. It says they do ship to Canada, but you still have to pay customs charges? Once you purchase this product, all you have to buy is the capsules which you can buy in bulk. I am not sure if that helps you decide to purchase it or not. Let me know how it goes!
Karen Little says
It has to go through customs and because it is a product NOT available in Canada, there will be customs charges π So as much as I think it would be a great purchase, I can’t justify the cost at this time. Thank you for your quick response.
Alexis says
Thanks for letting me know! That does make things much more expensive

How does force of nature compare with isopropyl alcohol? Do you have a preference?
Alexis says
They both make great disinfectants. Force of Nature is safe to use on food surfaces or things like kid’s toys where the may put them in their mouths. I wouldn’t recommend using rubbing alcohol for disinfecting those types of things. Force of Nature can also be used for cleaning just as is it is. Rubbing alcohol does better cleaning if you dilute to the proper proportions like our all-purpose cleaner or this one. I use both regularly

Thank you so much for this information, Alexis! Itβs very helpful.

I do like your website and appreciate it as a reliable source for cleaning advice.
Here in the UK we have the H2Oe3 Natural Cleaning System which seems to be remarkably similar process, using ordinary tap water and common table salt to make hypochlorous acid, but we don’t buy expensive capsules. It comes with a little spoon to measure a specific amount of table salt to add to the specific volume of water for the bottle. The Thane instruction manual is very detailed.
I was a bit doubtful about using it as it seemed almost too good to be true (except for the price). Now I will definitely be giving it a go for general use. Maybe I’ll use something else, like 70%isopropyl alcohol, which I really dislike, for specifically risky things, like raw chicken.
Alexis says
This type of machine is fine to use, but there is a large amount of user error that can occur without the remeasured capsules. The only machine FDA approved here is the Force of Nature machine only due to the prepackaged and precisely measured capsules. This type of process is so exact scientifically, even if you are off by 1/1000th for the salt, it wouldn’t produce the same % of hypochlorous acid. For general cleaning, this won’t matter though. This is only true for disinfecting. I think if you like your cleaning system, that is great to use. rubbing alcohol is a great disinfecting. I would read our post on cleaning vs disinfecting to make sure you take all the proper steps π
