Everyone always asks where I got our quilt for our bed. It is Boll and Branch. Excellent quality and it fits our king great. It is extra large, so it goes almost to the floor even with a tall mattress. We have it in the pewter color.
How To Apply Linen Spray:
This is great to apply on top of your bedspread, duvet, pillows, sheets, or even towels. Just spray the area lightly every couple of days. This scent lasts awhile, so usually every few days is enough.
Why You Should A Linen Spray
There are many reasons to use a linen spray.
The main reason is to make your sheets and pillows smell nice. I love how all my linens smell after washing and drying, but it fades quickly. This is a quick way to freshen them up again. You can also spray this on the pillows you don’t wash in the washing machine to keep them fresh too.
Lavender Essential Oil For Sleep
You can find a lot of research on lavender essential oil for sleeping. It is one of the most common oils for sleep, and you will see it in many linen sprays and sleep aides. I think it is also just a nice calming scent for bedrooms. You can learn more about lavender essential oil and sleep in this research.
Witch Hazel Toner vs Regular Witch Hazel
For this recipe, I love using the witch hazel toner because the witch hazel smell isn’t noticeable, and they have several scent options. I love the coconut one! I also love their rose toner and use it often. You can choose any combination you want, but I definitely recommend the toner over the full witch hazel which can have an overpowering scent.
Why Do You Use Witch Hazel and Not Rubbing Alcohol or Vodka?
When it comes to mixing up solutions with essential oils, you have several liquid options. Water, rubbing alcohol, vodka, or witch hazel. Water is not a good choice for things like fabric because it doesn’t evaporate quickly and leaves water drops. It can make your fabric wet.
Rubbing alcohol evaporates quickly, but it has a very strong scent, so it will overpower your essential oil. I love rubbing alcohol for cleaning everything, but for room sprays or fabric sprays, it is too strong.
Vodka is more mild in scent and also evaporates quickly, so you will find it in things like room sprays. However, it does not make the best option for fabrics. It still has a strong alcohol scent, so you don’t smell the oils as well. It is also expensive and harder to get, so it isn’t something I like to use for a quick DIY like this.
This leaves witch hazel. It is mild in scent, evaporates quickly, and mixes well. It just makes a great element in this spray!
Feel free to use this as often as you want on any fabric around your home. It is so easy to use and versatile! Happy Spring Cleaning!

Ive always been curious why use Witch Hazel at all; does it do something specific that is beneficial in this application?
Alexis says
You need something to distribute the essential oil. Water leaves water drops everywhere and can make things wet. Rubbing alcohol is a little bit strong and can overwhelm the scent of the oils. Witch hazel evaporates like rubbing alcohol without the strong scent, so I think it works great for things like this

I didn’t know that about Witch Hazel, thank you so much!

It’s great!

why not vodka and the essential oil? plain vodka takes out musty smells well.

You can learn more about using vodka as a room spray in this post. There are a few reasons not to use it for this. One, it is not the best for spraying directly onto fabric. Two, it is expensive and not as available for most people to buy 🙂 This is why we love giving you different options on chemistry cachet.

I’m always concerned that the spraying of oil will leave a residue on my furniture and other things. Is this a false concern
Alexis says
It would have to be very concentrated to leave a residue. Using a mixture like this evaporates quickly and doesn’t contain enough oil to leave anything on surfaces 🙂
