This easy DIY pumpkin spice room spray is only three ingredients, but too great not to share with you this season!
I have really love whipping up simple room sprays and dividing them into little bottles to put throughout the house.
I’ll keep one in our bedroom, bathrooms, kitchen, and office for a quick spray when needed.
Here is how to make it!
Three Ingredient DIY Pumpkin Spice Room Spray

This is an essential oil based room spray, so all the scent comes from the oils. We combine water and witch hazel in this mix to give you a spray that will distribute in the air well, but also evaporate quicker. This helps surfaces not get too wet after spraying the air. Be sure to read past the directions to read more about the ingredients.
Ingredients for DIY Pumpkin Spice Room Spray:
- 6 oz water
- 2 tbsp witch hazel (alcohol based)
- 40 drops pumpkin spice essential oil
- Glass spray bottle (or several small ones)
Directions:
- Mix ingredients into a bowl.
- Add to a bigger spray bottle or into several small ones.
What Type Of Pumpkin Spice Essential Oil Is Best For A Room Spray?
I am using Woolzies (they call it pumpkin pie) in the photos because it is one of my favorites and something I already had on hand. I love their essential oils because they smell really great. I also love to use Plant Therapy Brand and Now if I can find it. Now brand has been harder to find lately. Those always smell the best, and for this room spray, you just want to find an oil that smells nice. No need for anything expensive. Some pumpkin spice oils smell fake or overpowering, so those are the brands I would recommend.
If you have many essential oils, the combinations are usually cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg essential oils. It is more affordable to use a pumpkin spice mix though 🙂
Why Add The Witch Hazel?
If you remember from previous posts like our homemade lemon room spray, witch hazel is an astringent, so it does a better job at evaporating in the air. You can also use vodka, like we have done in the past. You will see that in our DIY air freshener here. Vodka also evaporates in the air too making the room spray not leave surfaces wet. I don’t use vodka as much in room sprays these days because it is more expensive and not as easy to get. If you happen to have it on hand though, feel free to use it!
I use an alcohol based witch hazel for these room spray recipes so you get the evaporation factor. Many witch hazels for skin are alcohol-free, so keep that in mind.
Many readers ask me why not rubbing alcohol in room sprays? The answer to this is it is just too pungent in odor and can overwhelm the smell of the essential oil.
How Long Does This Homemade Pumpkin Room Spray Last In The Air?
Another common question I get from readers is why doesn’t the scent last as long? Something to remember with DIY solutions, they are not formulated like store-bought ones. When you buy a store-bought air freshener, they are specifically created to absorb odors, neutralize odors, and have long lasting freshness. Read more about air fresheners in this post.
Homemade solutions don’t have that ability, so this scent won’t last as long in the air. I spray it a few times a day 🙂 A light mist around rooms, living rooms, or bathrooms is good. You can really use it as often as you would like too!
How Long Does This Solution Keep?
You will probably use this up before the season, but you can expect this to last a year. Just smell it to see if it still smells like fresh pumpkin spice. If smell has faded, I would toss it.
What If I Don’t Like Pumpkin Spice?
If you want to make a fall room spray with just essential oils, but don’t like pumpkin spice, you can try another fall blend! Plant Therapy has an apple orchard scent that is awesome. It would make a great room spray too.
The benefit to this type of room spray is how easily it is to change out the scents depending on what you enjoy. I am just a huge pumpkin spice fan, so I try to do it all season!
