This is an easy DIY rose petal sugar scrub you are going to love!

Sugar scrub’s are the easiest thing to make at home plus they work so well!

DIY Rose Petal Sugar Scrub

DIY rose petal sugar scrub for dry skin

My husband is always laughing at me because I read the labels to all my make up or face products. Polyacrylamide on the label? I will put it back immediately.

Anyways, I tend me make my own things when I can, especially sugar scrubs. I love them! I have really dry skin that needs exfoliation and moisturizer daily, so scrubs are perfect. I made this COFFEE CHOCOLATE scrub during Christmas, and I love it too. It is a little more invigorating, where as this one is more calm and soft!

Coconut oil is my oil of choice for my face and especially as part of scrubs. You can definitely use olive oil, which I do on occasion. Make sure the oil you use is organic because some oils can be highly modified and just as bad for your skin.

If you read this blog often, you know I love ROSES!

Roses are such a calming, beautiful flower and they smell amazing. I have roses bushes in my backyard and front yard, they are the first plants I put in the ground in our new home a few years ago. In the spring, I make this scrub with my own roses, but since it is winter, I just bought some pretty flowers from the store. They work just as well 🙂

Before we start, be sure to check out this post we did on rose based skincare products! Roses are so great for all types of skincare. And be sure to follow us on Instagram for more fun tips and videos like this everyday!

Ingredients Needed for DIY Rose Petal Sugar Scrub:

  • 1/4 cup melted coconut oil (I always use this one)
  • 2 tbsp Himalayan pink sea salt
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 10 drops of essential rose oil or rosewater (I use this rosewater concentrate or this rose essential oil)
  • Rose Petals, shredded

Directions:

    1. Melt coconut oil until soft, allow to cool a few minutes.
    2. Mix in a large bowl with the sugar and sea salt.
    3. Mix this until combined, but do not over mix. Texture should be fluffy.
    4. Add in your rose oil or rose water concentrate, then some shredded rose petals.
    5. Store in a air tight container and use whenever you want! This will keep for a few weeks and even longer in the fridge. The only thing that will actually happen after a few weeks, is the mixture can harden. All you need to do is soften in the microwave is this happens!

An easy, chemist approved DIY Rose Petal Sugar Scrub

Chemistry Behind The Ingredients In Our DIY Rose Petal Sugar Scrub:

These ingredients are so simple, but there is a good reason they are used! Simple science shows why each ingredient is beneficial for this DIY scrub.

Pink Himalayan Sea Salt

Pink Sea Salt is not only pretty, but it has some interesting chemistry. You can use another salt that is rough, like sea salt.

Granulated Sugar

Sugar scrubs main ingredients are always sugar because it is a great exfoliant, but also melts easily. It won’t stick around on your skin once you rinse it off!

Coconut Oil

Coconut oil has some awesome topical benefits for your skin! Read more about it in our detailed post here. It is so great for dry skin and works perfect in a sugar scrub!

Rosewater Concentrate

Pure rose oil is very expensive, and the main purpose is scent for this scrub, so you can save money by using a rosewater concentrate. It smells so good! If you have pure rose essential oil, feel free to use it. Rose oil is gentle on the skin, and helps soften dry skin too. Rosewater is a very powerful solution, and it is found in many skincare products like my favorite sleeping mask found here.

Rose Petals

These are mainly for looks and scent. They make this scrub look so fresh and fancy. You can also use dried rose petals in this recipe.

By the way, dogs LOVE coconut oil! And it is really good for them too. Ruger was so obsessed with this scrub I made, he had his face right up in the middle the entire time. I let him lick the coconut oil bowl after too. He was so excited!

I hope you enjoy this! It is so easy to make this DIY Rose Petal Sugar Scrub and it smells so delicious!

Enjoy!

Happy Monday Alexis… this scrub sounds like it smells heavenly. I’ve seen the size of those Himalayan salt crystals and wonder if it may be too rough on my facial skin. I know that sugar has much finer crystals. Would the salt dissolve in the coconut oil, is it a preservative for the scrub? I’ve been hesitant to make the leap into coconut oil… one of these days I will buy a small jar and try it. Thanks for the info!

P.S. I got “carded” on my 21st birthday in a casino. That was great!

It doesn’t dissolve, but it softens once it is is mixed up. Pink salt is less rough than regular salt. I like the salt for an little extra exfoliation and it helps the skin with dead skin cells! It isn’t rough at all, this scrub is very light and fluffy! That is great you got carded! I still do all the time…I am just trying to embrace it lol

I think it would probably freak me out to know too much about the chemicals in products! I think I’d want to know more about the best convenient foods (microwave meals, boxed, etc) that have the least amount of harmful chemicals.

Hi Hope! I am so happy you stopped by! And I love knowing how people came by also 🙂

Some of the natural scrubs in the stores are so expensive. And they are usually the exact same ingredients. I bought one a few years ago that was really great, but it was very expensive and didn’t last long. I really enjoy this scrub and make it monthly 🙂 It works just as good as that one I bought too!

I hope you get to try it out and if you do, let me know how you like it! Come by anytime 🙂

    Hi Alexis,

I’m a new fan, but rapidly becoming a huge one!
I’m from Quebec city, so please excuse me if my english isn’t My first langage is french.

I have rosewater concentre, but I realised that it contains glycerin (water, alcohol, glycerin and rosewater oil).

Can I use it in this receipe and in others, like the rose and green tea scrub?

Do you use this scrub on your face or juste body (same question with the green tea and rose scrub and the coffee/chocolate one)

Quebec city have a much cooler température than yours in Texas…

So, will it be better for me to use the liquid form of coconut oil?
I think so, because it’s Always very hard/solid at the room temperature here.

    Thanks a lot,

Hi Maryline! So happy to have you part of our community! And so awesome you live in Quebec, I have always wanted to go. I bet it is beautiful this time of year. You can use the rosewater concentrate in any of these recipes, I use it too. Pure rose oil is very expensive, so this rosewater concentrate is a good alternative. You can use this scrub on both face and body. Just make sure to use it gently on the face. I recommend melting the coconut oil a little so it is in liquid form to allow for easy mixing. Hope this helps 🙂 Let me know if you have other questions!!

    Thanks for your answer.

Yes, the automn Colors are actually amazing here! Too bad it doesn’t last very long tough.
Winter and snow will begin too soon! I then became jaelous of your hot climate!
    You’re welcome here anytime!

I already understood that I can use concentrate rosewater.

My question was about the glycerin contained in the one I have here.

Can you clarifies that for me please?

I made your bathroom cleaner, your best all purpose cleaner with rubbing alcool and they are great!!!

    But another question here:

-I don’t have natural stone in my house.

Base on that fact, witch cleaner will you use for the kitchen?

Witch one is the most effective and desinfecting ( the everething vinegar one or the one with rubbing alcool)?

And do you/can you spray your Homemade febreze on fabrics or it’s just an air spray?

I saw your yoga mat spray receipe too.

Can I use this on my dog mat and small carpet? I had read on another site to not use tea tree oil around animal, but I want your opinion.

Your the scientist! I’m a family physician, so I have a scientific mind too and that’s why I love your stuff so Much!

    I know…..that’s a lot of questions!

But maybe I will begin to be your best ambassador up here!!!

The glycerin is fine, it is common skincare ingredient. Since you don’t have natural stone, you can use either the vinegar or rubbing alcohol one. I think they both work great. The one with rubbing alcohol will disinfect a little stronger. They clean equally. You can spray the homemade room spray onto fabrics, but it might leave a residue. I will sometimes spray it onto throw pillows, then wipe then down with a damp cloth to remove any residue. The yoga mat spray shouldn’t be used on areas your pets are. Tea tree oil is toxic to dogs, so it is best to keep it away from them. I hope i answered everything 🙂 Please let me know if you have other questions!
