Mini Rose Series Part Two: Easy Care Tips for Potted Mini Roses

Last week was part one of this series which was all about how to pot our mini rose bush properly so it will have the best opportunity to grow well! Today is the second part of this series which is all about easy care tips to make sure you keep the mini rose bush alive and looking pretty all season!

First, I would just like to mention, I don’t have a nice progress photo for you to show how well this bush has been doing with my how to pot steps and these care tips.

Unfortunately, last weeks tornado destroyed this pretty pink pot and sent the rose bush flying away 🙁

Thankfully, I prepared this post in advance so it would be ready to share with you in time for the spring season. Don’t worry though! I have a new one that I am repotting soon, and will have pretty pictures to share in a few weeks 🙂

In the meantime, you can see some more on instagram.

Anyways, back to these easy care tips for potted mini roses.

I personally think roses are the prettiest of all flowers. I’m not sure what it is, they are just a comforting bloom with an invigorating scent. That is why it makes the most amazing sugar scrub too!

If you have a yard, patio, or balcony, you cannot go wrong with adding one of these to it. They are also really affordable!

Here are my top easy care tips for potted mini roses!

One. Do not let it dry out, but don’t over water!

Sounds like an oxymoron, but just like a regular rose, you really don’t want to over water this. If you follow my planting guide, you shouldn’t have to worry about too much water since you have good drainage in your pot.

I actually water mine almost everyday when it’s warm. If they dry out, they will go into shock and will be more likely to die. Just make sure to check the soil every day or so, to make sure it is damp!

Two. Prune occasionally

My big rose bushes do so well when I prune them, and mini roses do too! It isn’t as big of a deal where you prune them, I would just keep the dead leaves and blooms cut off as often as possible. This will keep the plant healthy.

Three. Sunlight and shade

Really, these do well in either. I have had them in complete shade, and they do well. I have also had on sitting in the sun for most of the day, and it seems to do well in that also.

If you are having a bad heat wave, it would probably be wise to move into a more shady area so it won’t dry out!

Four. Light fertilizer

I say light because it is very easy to use too much and burn the roots! I like to use this All in One Rose and Flower Care Granules which also doubles as an insect and disease treatment.

Roses can get black spots even when they are in pots, so I also use the spray I talk about in this rose post about black spots.

Five. Repot when needed

If your mini roses grow double or more in size, I would definitely put into a bigger pot just to make sure they don’t get root rot! It may take a few seasons to get that much bigger, but definitely keep it in mind 🙂

Fun fact: Ruger loves roses too! 🙂

Oh no sorry to hear the tornado ruined your rose plant..I would love to have some roses in my garden but with the summer coming up, I doubt they’ll be able to withstand the head and well I’m not exactly great at keeping plants alive. lol

Ugh, I am not looking forward to the heat this summer! I always have to pick out hardy plants that do well in 100+ all summer. This one does really good in all weather, so I love it!

I mainly use my homemade plant food and also the slow release one from the eBook. I will also spray the leaves with epsom salt spray like I talk about in this post. That post is for indoor houseplants, but I love using the Epsom salt outdoors too. All these things have really helped keep everything vibrant 🙂
