I like to call this my energizing iced coffee recipe because it is a great afternoon pick me up!
After posting this article on the truth about coffee for your health, I had some questions about my favorite way to drink coffee and favorite recipes.
For the most part, I am very old school with coffee. I have a cup of black coffee in the mornings with a little cinnamon.
It is my favorite way to enjoy it and really helps my mornings start out right.
Sometimes, on those LONG afternoons that drag, you need a fun little pick me up. This drink is the answer!

Chemist Tips on Energizing Coffee
After publishing this some readers asked me what type of coffee to use?
It’s true that many coffee brands are heavily processed, so you can always stick with an organic or fair-trade labeled coffee to ensure you are using something more natural.
Good brands for your keurig can be found here.
Other favorites I like are this one and this one.
Cinnamon in Coffee
Cinnamon is a really great addition for coffee. Not only does cinnamon have fantastic health benefits (read all of them in this post), but it also plays a role curbing blood sugar when you drink coffee. Like I mention in this post about cinnamon, NPR mentions in this article it does matter what type of cinnamon.
Ceylon cinnamon comes straight from the cinnamon bark and contains the important health benefits.
Cinnamon also enhances coffee flavor for an added boost.
Raw Honey
Adding a small of honey to coffee is a great source of energy without too much added sugar. In this article we posted about honey, it has some great natural health benefits plus some unique chemicals that make it a good sweetener to use.
Honey is one of my favorite additions to drinks for an energy boost.
Almond Creamer
One of my favorite dairy-free creamers is Silk almond creamer. It has a a great list of ingredients. So many dairy-free creamers have added fillers and sweeteners, but this brand has a great option!
This creamer isn’t as sweet as regular, so you can add up to 2 tsp per drink.
Almond milk is always my favorite addition for drinks. It adds a great flavor and creaminess!

I love iced coffee, probably more so than regular coffee but never attempted to make it myself. This recipe is calling my name especially since it’s dairy free! Definitely going to buy that almond creamer and the vanilla almond milk to make a small batch at home instead of spending money at coffee shops. Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis

I love the smell of coffee, but the actual thing? Not so much. I’m curious about this though!
