These are the best fall traditions to start in October. They are all my favorites!

I am a tradition girl especially in the fall. Each year, things have to be done or it just doesn’t feel like we have enjoyed the season to the fullest.

I have shared a fall to-do list with you before, but haven’t really talked about traditions. We have also been adding new traditions now that are sweet girl is here šŸ™‚

Let’s talk traditions!

15 Favorite Fall Traditions to Start in October

1. Go to the Zoo

Fall is the perfect time to go to the zoo! The weather is nice, and they usually have some type of fall activity going on. We are taking Amelia to the zoo soon and have been counting down the days for cooler weather. October at the zoo is the best.

I can’t wait to see how much she loves the Fort Worth Zoo! I’ll be sure to share our trip on instagram šŸ™‚

2. Visit a Pumpkin Patch

If you are lucky enough to live next to an actual pumpkin patch, I am jealous! For now, we like to visit the pumpkin patches at the farmers market. They have a fun selection, and everyone needs yearly photos with pumpkins. Especially if you have kids!

3. Carve Pumpkins

After you visit the pumpkin patch, carving pumpkins is a must. This is a tradition I have been doing since I was a little girl. I remember my Dad cutting the pumpkin open, and I got to dig out the inside šŸ™‚ I loved it! My husband and I carve them every year.

Don’t forget to make this homemade carved pumpkin spray so they last a longer!

4. Watch Hocus Pocus

I love Halloween movies! Here is a list of my favorites. If you only watch ONE Fall movie each year, Hocus Pocus should be the one. Watching this movie every October is one of my favorite traditions. I usually watch it numerous times because it is so good!

5. Rake ? Leaves

Sounds like a chore right? I have really fond memories of raking leaves in the fall with my parents. We would rake leaves and bag them in these pumpkin trash bags. I don’t have many trees in my yard now, but every time I go to my parents, I rake leaves! It’s fun! And leaves smell so good. You can make a tradition of it this fall, but also get some cleaning done. You can also save those leaves and do a fun project with them from this post.

6. Burn Fall Scented Candles

One of my oldest traditions is fall candles! Every year, I buy new ones and keep them going all season. I love having my house smell like a pumpkin spice, hayride, crisp fall day.

My favorite fall candles:

  • Leaves (I have to have this!)
  • Pumpkin Pie

7. Take Family Photos

This is a newer tradition for us, but now that we have Amelia, I want to do this every Fall! Pictures with pumpkins are the best!

8. Have a Football Watching Party

I love football! NFL Sundays are the best for football parties. I didn’t get to have a party last year because I was so sick while pregnant, so I am looking forward to having one again this fall! Making snacks and watching Football on a Fall day is the best.

9. Decorate Your House For Fall

Every year, my mom comes over and helps me decorate for Fall! I love getting touches of fall inside the house. It makes everything so cozy.

12. Make Smores Outside

As the evenings get cooler, having a fire outside is fun! We have a fire pit, so the minute it gets cooler, we love to makes smores outside. Throw that in with some cozy blankets, it is such a fun tradition!

13. Make Pumpkin Pie

This is my husbands favorite tradition. Homemade pumpkin pie! I always make this pie once October rolls around šŸ™‚

14. Read Fall Books Outside

I love reading fall inspired books outside on a fall day! I haven’t done that yet since Amelia is still young, but I always look forward to that each fall. Here are some of my favorite fall reading lists:

  • Autumn Mysteries
  • Cozy Autumn Book List

15. Make Caramel Apples

This is something I have been doing since I was a little kid. I always got excited to make caramel apples in the fall! Now, I make a regular version and this dairy-free version!

What are your favorite fall traditions?

Scented candles? OH No, Essential Oils (of excellent quality) would be much healthier.

    Alexis,
That baby is so darn cute, I’d just want to kiss those little cheeks all day long :-)) and I bet you do.
Really the one in the pumpkin patch is so adorable. Thanks for putting you two in the blog — your site was always so human, but now that the baby is part of it, even more so……
