Today, we have some fantastic at-home manicure and pedicure tricks you are going to really enjoy!
I love researching and testing skincare products, but sometimes simple hacks like this are also great to talk about.
With summer right around the corner, you can have your nails looking healthy with these fun ideas.
Fantastic At-Home Manicure and Pedicure Tricks
Use Old Skincare Around Your Nails and Cuticles
If you have skincare products sitting around you need to use up OR if you have some products you really don’t like on your face, you can use them around your nails. This is something I do all the time. It uses up old products, but also keeps your cuticles and nails very healthy.
For instance, I was testing out this new oil for my skin. It made me turn very red, so I stopped using it on my face. Since I paid for it, I have been using it each night around my nails. It is great! The skin around your nail beds isn’t sensitive like your face, so this is a great tip.
Use a Foot Peel Mask for Your Heals
This foot peel mask has over 65,000 good reviews on Amazon, so I had to try it out. If you want to get your heals smooth and soft, this is a must have at-home pedicure trick! It works very well and will keep your heals and feet smooth this summer.
Try Cooking Spray For a Fast Dry Top Coat
If you don’t have any fast dry top coat, you can use cooking spray and it works just as well (if not better). I have tried all the tricks for this like dipping them in ice water. The cooking spray is a great hack! The oil will absorb into wet polish ,thinning it out and making it dry faster. I recommend spraying into the kitchen sink for easier clean up. Allow the nails to set five or so minutes, and you can spray a second coat if needed.
Apply a Thin Layer of Vaseline Around Nails Before Painting
I read this tip in high school in Seventeen or Glamour Magazine (circa 2001). I have used it since then…over 20 years now 😮 If you apply a thin layer around the nail, then use your nail polish, it will allow you to gently wipe off excess polish. I use a q-tip for this and it works great!
Make a Homemade Foot Scrub
Before painting my toe nails, I love using a foot scrub. This is my favorite one.
Ingredients:
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1/2 cup coarse sea salt
- 1/3 cup jojoa oil (or olive oil)
- few drops of lavender essential oil
Directions:
- Mix all the dry ingredients together.
- Stir in the oil and mix gently.
- Add in a few drops of lavender oil and give another stir.
- Scrub dry feet well, then rinse or step into the shower or bath to rinse off.
- Use a moisturizer after scrubbing.
Try a Homemade Nail Polish Remover
You can mix up vinegar and lemon juice, soak nails for five minutes, then wipe off the polish. This works for most nail polish you use at home! It is super easy to use and not as harsh as acetone. The acids work to break up and remove nail polish.
I tested it at home with some nail polish I had sitting around and it worked! The key was soaking for awhile, then using one of these pads to remove it.
Or Use This Non-Toxic Plant Based Nail Polish Remover
I also love this natural nail polish remover. This is great to keep on hand and it last for a long time because a little goes a long way. Here is the original blog post we shared on it which goes into the science on how it works too.
