So, it has been a strange week in Texas. We have had unseasonably cool temperatures in the low 70s which is very unusual. I am embracing it though because those 100 degree temps will be back soon. It has also rained A LOT.
This time of year is so pretty and vibrant everywhere you go! Especially at the grocery store, it’s all about summer berries and pretty fruits!
I made this fluffy blueberry cake again this week. It goes fast, but it is so delicious (and not bad for you either!). The blueberries right now are on point! You saw on snapchat (alexisroch) that I was working on some popsicles too. Those will be going live on Monday. They are all about strawberry flavors!
I took Ruger for his annual exam on Saturday. We have officially had him two years now! Anyways, this 82 lb bulldog is quite the spectacle at the vet. I always walk in first and say I am here with Ruger. Everyone is like OH, Ruger’s here, get ready! I go get him, and he always burst through the door full speed, knocking over people, other dogs, or anything in his path. He drags me along to the room. He is so excited and thrilled to be there. He also thinks everyone is there just for him. At the end of the visit, he showed off to everyone trying to climb on the bench I had been sitting on. Of course, he is chubby, so it takes him a few minutes to pull himself up. Then he turns around and shows everyone how awesome he is…lol…he is such a character!
Did you see that cute retro diner I shared on instagram? It was such a fun lunch date we had. It was all decked out in 1940s themed everything. The food was good too! I had a spinach and bacon salad, my husband had tacos. So delicious! I adore all things retro. This hollywood book list I shared on Wednesday encompasses all the too!
I know everyone was wanting my review of the Elizabeth Taylor biography, so definitely stop by to check it out! Now I am reading a pretty interesting mystery and have some other summer novels lined up. I will be sharing all the details soon 🙂
Speaking of 82 lb Ruger, I found this picture on my phone a few days ago and couldn’t believe how little and wrinkly he was. This was two summer’s ago. My heart just MELTS when I see old pictures on him!
I shared a little bit of these new cushions last week, but I am really loving them! With all the rain we’ve had, I was wondering how well they would do in it. They are very water resistant! You can pretty much wipe off the rain drops and they are good to go. I have more backyard projects to work on soon…just waiting for the rain to stop! Be sure to check out my post about making your backyard more dreamy and inviting!
How was your week? What are your plans for the weekend?
Have a wonderful one!

I saw your snapchat this week talking about how Ruger sounds like a pig. He is so adorable – and of course everyone is just there at the vet for me. I’ve not been able to truly enjoy our backyard yet due to the rain but I’m hoping for a dry out soon. Hope it’s a great weekend.
Alexis says
I hope it does too! All this rain is cramping my style outside! Looks like we have it for another week, but at least it has been cooler temperature wise! his pig noises are too funny!!

He sounds like quite the character–we have big dogs too and they are such sweeties! Can’t wait for berry season to officially begin up north here in Wisconsin! We always pick 30 lbs. of blueberries and freeze them so we have them all year round!
Alexis says
He is such a character! He always does something to make us laugh 🙂 That sounds like SO much fun!! Then to have them all year, that is awesome!
Katie @thebrooksielife says
I love berry season!! We went and picked strawberries and I want to do it again and pick blueberries! I can’t wait to see the popsicles. Your dog is the cutest by the way!!
Alexis says
Strawberry picking is so fun! We used to live in southern california and lived next to a berry farm! It was so fun!! Thanks Katie!!

Happy Friday Alexis… I love your berries picture – wish I could eat it now… but missing the strawberries. I haven’t had a popsicle in AGES! Hope Ruger’s exam was all good. His “baby pictures” are adorable. Ann’s senior annual exam is in 2 weeks – she also makes a spectacle of herself… she is afraid of other dogs, but she will want to meet all the people in the outer office… She quiets down when she’s in the private room. CA weather has been all over the place, too – high 80s on M & T, and today super windy and low 60s, with rain on Sat… Enjoy your weekend!
Alexis says
Ruger’s exam went great! He gained some weight, but still healthy 🙂 The sun finally came out a little bit today which is so nice! It will be rainy again next week, but we are loving it while we can 🙂 Have a wonderful evening!

I’m a huge fan of mixed berries and berry flavored smoothies and desserts. Ruger is too cute! How much does he weigh? Lola is almost 50 pounds but not as tall so we’re trying to stabilize her kibble with some pumpkin.
Alexis says
He is 82 lbs! Lots of muscle…and lots of chubby too lol
Kate @ Green Fashionista says

I love looking at old pictures of our dogs too. They are so cute as puppies. I’ve enjoyed watching Ruger’ antics over the past year. Yes, your cushions are pretty. I have to take mine in each evening – well they haven’t been out much because it has rained and rained and rained here in NC too.
Alexis says
I am so happy the sun finally came out here today! Everything needed to dry out before all the rain next week again. Hope you get some sunshine soon! 🙂

Berry season was my favorite time of year (as far as eating goes….) when we lived in Michigan. We lived within walking distance of a u-pick strawberry farm–and we sure picked a LOT!
Alexis says
That sounds like so much fun!! I would probably do that all the time too 🙂
Kelsie says
Summer berries are my FAVE! That salad also looks delicious! Cute dog!
