We are sharing some fun ways to keep learning as an adult today! Science shows that learning new things can keep you young.

Once I finished up my chemistry degree, my first emotion was relief…I was so relieved to be DONE with learning theoretical mind boggling information. Then, something strange happened a few months after school was over. I realized my mind was bored, and I missed learning new things.

I though maybe I need to go back to school or get certified in something, but that thought made me sick!! No way was I going to go through that torture again so soon after graduation.

It was then I started doing fun learning, you know, the stuff I loved, but wanted to be better at. In the last few years, I have taken dozens of online courses, classes, watched countless youtube videos for almost anything I enjoy.

Even when you are an expert in something, there is ALWAYS something new to learn in that area. Fun learning never ends 🙂

Fun Ways To Keep Learning As An Adult

Learn How to Cook or Bake

An easy way to keep learning as an adult is to cooking or baking! You can watch youtube or cooking shows on TV to learn techniques or new recipes. A few years ago, my mom and I took a cookie decorating class. It was so much fun, and I really learned some great tips on decorating cookies (which is not my strong suit lol).

If you find a class like this locally, you should definitely take it! Not only was it fun learning how to make beautiful cookies, but it was a fun time to spend with my mom 🙂

This is a great thing to do with your spouse too. Follow us on instagram for more inspiration!

Read Often

Reading is one of the easiest ways to learn something new. I don’t have much time to read novels these days, but I love checking out online articles or ebooks. There is never a shortage of reading information in today’s time.

Take a Course

There are many courses available online and locally. I am always taking courses on running a blog or business. With the internet changing all the time, it is important to keep learning!

If you check out your local rec center, you can even find classes offered from different departments in areas like gardening, painting, or other home economic subjects. Most of these classes are even free! The possibilities are endless.

Start Exercising

Exercise might not seem like a mind learning activity, but it can be! I love taking Pilates from my local studio. Not only does it work your muscles, but it works your mind to. You have to keep up with the instructions and coordination it takes to do the moves. Many of the ladies in my class are elderly, and they can’t believe how much their minds have improved after taking classes.

Take a Dance Class

My husband and I took a dance class a few years ago. It was not only fun, but I learned so much from that class! We learned how to dance, coordination, rhythm, and working together as a team. It was a really great experience. I highly recommend this to anyone!

Talk to People

I listened to a sermon a few months, and something he said really struck me! He said everyone has something unique, and we can learn from anyone! You can learn from a friend, neighbor, or even a stranger at the store. Listen to people, they are good at something you aren’t! Learn from anyone you can. I love learning from people I meet.

What are some ways you enjoy learning?

Happy Tuesday Alexis! Love how you are taking all sorts of fun, new classes. I have been stagnant in learning new things… Stuck in the comfort zone. Something to think of for the new year. Keep on learning! Enjoy!

Hi Laurie! I know exactly what you mean about comfort zones, I struggle with that as well. It is definitely the easy route, but then I am always glad when I step out and try something 🙂 Have a great day!

Alexis, everyday is a learning experience for me. I jumped into blogging blindly. So it has been quite eye opening for me to realize that there is so much more to it than just putting your thoughts and ideas out there. Like you I am using Pinteres to find information and also Google is officially my best friend. I’ve been learning DIY techniques from other talented bloggers and I ask a question or two if I don’t understand what they are doing. In general I am learning so much, I feel like I’m back in school. Which is a good thing as far as I’m concerned.

There is ALWAYS so much for us to learn in life! I graduated from university five years ago and these days I’m learning how to ballroom dance, studying French, and honing my public speaking skills through Toastmasters – and I just finished doing a wine course.

I never understand when people say that they get bored after college or when they retire. How can a person get bored when there is so much out there to explore and learn?! 🙂

I totally agree, how an you get bored? There are so many fun things to do and in fact, college being over allows us to actually enjoy this stuff now! When I was getting my chemistry degree, I barely had time to sleep , let alone have any hobbies! I have been dancing again too which is awesome! I need to ballroom dance, that sounds great!

That is my goal as a homeschool mom, not to teach my children information but to teach them HOW TO LEARN. Then they can teach themselves whatever they want to know for the rest of their lives! Thanks for linking up on Frugal Friday! 🙂

Learning is so valuable! When I was in college, and now as a professional, I realize people have never been taught how to learn! And it makes life so much more difficult for them. That is great you teach your kids that 🙂

She is absolutely right! Learning keeps your mind healthy and young. My 85 year old grandmother is the same way and she is always learning 🙂
