We’ve actually never celebrated a dog’s birthday before I got Ruger, but when your dog is practically your kid…it is always fun to do something special for them! Plus, I love making him healthy, homemade, affordable treats that he will enjoy.
I always keep a batch of these little sweet potato treats on hand when I can, but I wanted to make something even more sweet and special for Ruger’s 2nd birthday!
These were a big hit with all the dogs! They are full of peanut butter, carrots and healthy fats that are so good for your dog!
I don’t know about your dog, but mine is a total peanut butter addict! The minute I get out a jar, he is running as fast as he can to come sit next to me, in the hopes I may give him a little taste. He is also a huge fan of carrots! If I am munching on some carrots as a snack, Ruger will very politely wait for me to share with him. Oddly enough, he is a very nice begger….although the drool that accumulates while he begs is pretty outrageous 🙂 So, I thought it would be fun to incorporate his two favorites into this grain-free dog birthday cupcake!
Many people on snapchat were asking for this recipe after a showed some videos of me making them, so here are all the details for you 🙂 P.s you can follow me on snapchat username alexisroch. I love sharing recipe behind the scenes!
Grain-free Dog Birthday Cupcakes
- 1 cup coconut flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 heap cup of shredded carrots
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup coconut oil (can also use olive oil)
- 1/4 cup peanut butter
- 1 large egg
- Bacon strips for topping (optional)
For the frosting (optional):
- 1/2 cup of peanut butter
- 1-2 tbsp water
Directions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line a cupcake tin with 6 liners.
Mix the first two dry ingredients, then add in the carrots until combined. In a separate bowl, mix the honey, oil, peanut butter and egg together until smooth. Add this wet mixture to the dry ingredients and stir until just combined.
Distribute evenly between 6 cupcake liners.
Bake for about 20 minutes, then allow to cool.
Mix the peanut butter with the water. It will become less sticky and more fluffy with water. Add to a plastic bag, cut the tip off, then pipe a little onto each cupcake!
Top with bacon strips for decoration 🙂
Of course, don’t forget to let your baby lick the spoon. This is always his favorite part for sure!

I love this! My pup has serious tummy issues (he’s like his mom that way) so I always make all his treats. His birthday is next month too so definitely making them then! <3, Pamela Sequins & Sea Breezes

Aw, your baby will definitely love these and they are so easy on their stomachs! Ruger has some issues too with wheat products, so I love making these at home 🙂

My MIL and I were just talking about making our fur-babies their own treats! This couldn’t have come at a better time, seriously. I saw a video on 5 dog snacks that are bad…Beggin Strips, PupPeroni and Milk Bones…we give Charlie PupPeroni…poor baby, he loves them. But he will no longer be having them. Thanks for sharing, your baby is adorable! Definitely pinning this!

I’m so happy to hear that lily!!! I hope you get to make these and your baby enjoys them 🙂 It’s amazing how full of chemicals and over processed all those dog treats are! Ruger loves them too. I love just making these for him so he can still have fun things to eat!

Happy Monday! Hope you had a good Easter weekend. Ruger is your baby for sure; you love to spoil him! I know about the drool factor from my girl… need a drool cloth on these kids… LOL. The cupcakes look good enough for us humans to eat – did you taste the pupcake? And peanut butter fluff… I might make that for my toast! And Ann will drool, too. Enjoy!
Alexis says
Ann will love these! They are definitely safe for us to eat too, although they are very bland and dry…but the puppies love them 🙂 Have a wonderful day!

Really cute idea for a birthday snack! We buy Lola bones and such for her birthdays too but I like that this recipe is grain free.
Alexis says
Grain free is the best! Especially for the bulldogs. It is so fun to buy or make our furbabies little treats 🙂
Julie says
We celebrate with Cocoa for sure. We even got her an Easter surprise!! Ruger looks like he loved the cupcakes and it is nice to bake something yourself so you know it is healthy!!
Alexis says
That is so fun! We got Ruger a little stuffed Easter bunny…he was sooo excited!

Thank you so much for sharing!!! I am so glad I found this! My dog’s birthday is in a week and my kids love to throw her a party! Instead of spending money on a dog cake at my local dog boutique, we will make her cupcakes this year!!!
Alexis says
Oh how fun Kim!!! Your puppy will love these and they are so much more affordable than buying something. I bought our baby a store bought little cake from a place last year…he actually loved these more 🙂

happy belated birthday wishes to your sweet fur baby. Our zzy turned four last month. We gave him a new chew toy. He has a favorite one from the pet shop. It looks like a dinosaur and has the best squeaker. Thank you for sharing at the Thursday Favorite Things blog hop. Watch for your feature on Monday xo

Kristy Noodles says
Do you know the calorie count on each pupcake?
Alexis says
I calculated it and it is about 250-280 calories per cupcake, depending on how large you make them.
Kristy Noodles says
Thank you!
Schona says
