I love browsing through cookbooks just as much as pinterest! Sometimes, I enjoy it even more because I get an actually hard copy of something to flip through and use in the kitchen.
If you have read my blog for awhile, you know that I prefer to bake awesome treats with a healthier twist. I have shared my RA journey in this post, and talked about nutrition. My husband also has many health issues that keep him from eating ANY dairy, so I make substitute desserts like dairy free pumpkin pie or dairy free dutch chocolate brownies.
Many people have heard of Trim Healthy Mama’s recipes, but I have never checked them out. I decided to try out the book and see how it was.

My Review:
I was surprised out how big this cookbook was! It had hundreds of recipes to try out and many substitutes for different diets. I really loved how big the sweet treats section was with so many options for your favorite desserts. The best part was most of them are single serving recipes too, so you don’t have to worry about making a huge batch of something.
I tried out a few recipes, but really loved their mug cakes. I make mug cakes all the time for a little treat in the afternoon, so I will try out any type of recipe. I tried the chocolate coconut mug cake in particular, and it was pretty good. It didn’t have many ingredients which is a huge plus for me!
Many of the recipes call for special ingredients or special flour, but I just used oat flour (my favorite type) and they seemed to work out just fine. I look forward to trying out some of the crockpot recipes and main dishes.
If you are wanting a healthier cookbook for the new year, I think you will love this one!

I love to flip through cookbooks for ideas but I find I don’t use them a lot. And even if I do, I take the basic concept and put my own spin on the recipe. I seem to have my “default” meals (probably because of our schedule and because I am boring). Once in a while I’ll get “ambitious”. A dream cookbook to have would be the America’s Test Kitchen one… it’s a big one! I love watching that show on PBS – do you watch it? They break the cooking procedure down with the “who/what/why”. It’s not a chemistry breakdown, but interesting just the same. Sometimes when I’m watching cooking shows I wish we had “smell-I-vision”. Unless they burned the food… LOL

I am the same way. I have the hardest time doing what a recipe says…I always use it as a base and come up with my own stuff! I have never seen that show, but it sounds super interesting! I will have to check it out!!!!

Love this! When you love food so much but want to eat cleaner you sometimes feel like you’re giving up the good stuff. Cookbooks like this and your baking recipes are amazing!!!! I ordered the Down South Paleo cookbook yesterday, so excited to see what they’re doing with southern food!
