I have been sharing a little behind the scenes on Instagram about my home exercises for surgery recovery, and I have had questions about items. So, today we are sharing home exercise equipment that doesn’t take up much space.
Before Amelia was born, our third bedroom was like a gym. I had a bike, elliptical, and so many workout tools to use. When she was born, our third bedroom turned into her nursery. I downsized most of my equipment!
My husband uses the garage for all of his weightlifting exercises, but I have been doing everything inside. It has been so helpful having everything at home since I can’t go to PT during this crisis our country is facing.
Anyways, here are my favorite home workout tools that also can be stored easily and not take up room in your house.
Home Exercise Equipment That Doesn’t Take Up Much Space
Many of these items we use at The Fit Lounge, my Pilates studio. I miss going there so much! I am sure many people are missing their gyms right now too.
All of these items are helpful for physical therapy I am doing on my knee, but these are also great for anyone who does yoga, Pilates, or Barre type exercises.
Join us on instagram for more behind the scenes on working out and rehab from knee surgery.
Pedal Exerciser Mini Exercise Bike
My mom teaches chair yoga , and she always has a pedal exerciser for people to use. I have been using this 3-4 times a day for my knee recovery. It takes up very little space, but it is also like having a stationary bike. My physical therapist told me he uses these on home calls and recommended I keep using it. You can use these for arms too.
Workout Ball
I have been doing numerous exercises with this type of workout ball. They are small too, so you can store them in an ottoman or drawer. We use these types of balls in Barre and Pilates too. Everyone can use these!
Exercise Belt/Strap
They gave this to me at the hospital for my husband to wrap around my waist and hold on to in case I fell. It is also the same tool they started using in physical therapy for me to stretch my calf. Unlike bands, it doesn’t have any give and is great for stretching. We use this in Barre class to stretch hamstring muscles too. You can do all types of stretching with a workout belt.
Workout Bands
Bands are one of the most versatile tools for home workouts. They have all different resistant options you can try too. These are the ones I have at home.
Ankle Weights
I have used ankle weights for a long time. You can do all types of leg exercises with these, but I have also been putting them on my knee for weighted knee extension. You can take out the different parts and make them less too. The ones in the picture are these which I have had for probably 10 years. This is another good option.
Trigger Point/Massage Ball
This is really helpful to massage or rub large muscle areas. I massage my quads and IT band on my legs. You can also lay on it and rub your back or press on different muscles. In one of my Pilates classes, we do an entire class on this. It is so relaxing and really helps your muscles.
Pilates Halo/Ring
There are sooo many workouts you can do with this pilates ring. It’s my favorite prop in our Pilates studio, but it’s really great at home too. I have been doing arm workouts with this at home. It’s a great tool, but also takes up very little space.
Foam Roller
The last item on this list is a simple foam roller. I have used this for 13 years now, and it has been very helpful! It is especially great right now during physical therapy at home. I have this basic one, and use it everyday! I store it under the bed, so it doesn’t take up much space.
