I have been working on this post for a few years! Easy home remedies for dark circles that actually work because they are based on science! Plus, I have tested so many tips out and have narrowed down what truly works.

Dark circles are my number one skin issue. It always has been too.

Unfortunately, my dark circles are genetic, so there isn’t a magic solution that will cure them, but there are easy home remedies for dark circles that actually work to lighten them, nourish them, and make them seem less intense.

Be sure to read this entire post before starting on any of these tips. I have important information throughout!

If you haven’t already, come over to instagram and check out my page and stories! I love sharing more tips there too.

Easy Home Remedies for Dark Circles that Actually Work Based on Science

home remedies for dark circles

Things to Remember When it Comes to Home Remedies for Dark Circles:

Dark circles can be caused from numerous things. Lack of sleep and genetics are common reasons, but there can also be a health related reason. Be sure to check in with your doctor to be sure your blood work is good.

If your dark circles are truly from lack of sleep or just genetics, then these remedies will help tremendously.

I have tested out dozens and dozens of methods for dark circles over the years, and these are by far the best tips.

Also, make sure to follow us on Instagram where we share fun videos, tips, and all things skincare and housekeeping!

Take Collagen

I’m sure you are not surprised to read this on Chemistry Cachet because I am such a huge advocate for taking collagen. Believe it or not, collagen can really help your skin around the eye area. One of the reasons my dark circles are so intense is due to under eye hollows. These hollows give a shadow which makes the dark circles look darker! Collagen plumps the skin which minimizes the under eye hollow appearance. It also helps with fine lines and wrinkles, but also gives skin youthfulness.

If I stop taking collagen for awhile, I notice right away my dark circles are worse! When I was pregnant and sick, I didn’t take collagen for months. It showed!

I started using this collagen in 2024, and I was BLOWN away with the results for my skin and under eye area. Many readers wrote in and said their dark circles were greatly improved too.

Try Eye Patches

Under eye patches are really great for quick firming and brightening of dark circles. Over the last few years, I have used dozens of brands. I think this brand on Amazon has worked the best.  They are cheap, but work well!

Drink A LOT of Water

Hydration is SO important for dark circles. Dehydration will intensify the darkness under eyes because it causes poor circulation. Dehydrated skin looks dull and can even shrivel. When I drink at least 10 glasses of water a day, I notice a significant difference in my dark circles.

You might even have darkness under your eyes just from not drinking enough water! Mine are genetic, but many people don’t have a genetic issue, just not enough water. Try it out for a few weeks and see!

Almond Oil

Topical Home Remedies for Dark Circles that Actually Work can be hard to find. There are many myths out there, and I have tried them all. Almond oil is a topical treatment that works!

Almond oil contains a high concentration of vitamin E. Vitamin E is the key to nourishing the under eye area. Hope over to this post to get an in-depth article about using almond oil and the science behind it.

Grapeseed Oil

Another oil that can be beneficial for dark circles is grapeseed oil. It also has a high vitamin E content which is important for dark circles! It’s a key ingredient to our DIY eye mask. It is also a great way to remove makeup!

Hyaluronic Acid

This acid is great for so many things, but it is so beneficial for dark circles. You can read the deep chemistry on it in this post. Basically, it works to moisturize the thin layer of skin under your eyes which “plumps” the area minimizing dark, dehydrated blood vessels. Daily use of HA will drastically improve your under eye area.

Caffeine is one of the best home remedies for dark circles!

Caffeine is a great TOPICAL treatment for dark circles. Remember, this is topical! Drinking caffeine (although there are benefits) isn’t going to help dark circles LOL Applying it to skin has numerous benefits!

If you pop over to this DIY caffeinated oil, you will learn how many neat things you can use it for. When you put caffeine on your face, it tightens and plumps skin. Most store-bought dark circle treatments contain caffeine for this reason! I love using it because it really tightens under the eye area which helps my under eye hollows! I use this under makeup too.

You can use caffeine in this DIY oil, this homemade under eye mask, or any store-bought treatment you can find. The Ordinary also has a caffeine serum.

The Best Under Eye Cream For Dark Circles?

We did a post on this incredible under eye cream for dark circles, and I highly recommend it if you want something potent for your eyes. They also gave us a discount code in that post for you to use! Be sure to check it out to learn how it works.

Other Remedies

Although there are numerous remedies out there, I have found the above items to be the most beneficial and impactful on dark circles. These are all things I have personally tested on myself over the years, so they are what I recommend.

Thank you for all of your knowledge! My baby and I are in your debt. 🙂
My question is how would you incorporate the oils and HA into ones routine? Should one alternate the different oils, and then use the HA everyday?

Here is a post on how I use my products step by step. HA is usually water based, so it will always be applied first. Oils will be last 🙂

I have used a few things that help with this. Glycolic acid scrub is really good for resurfacing and fading dark spots. Vitamin C is also really great for this.

NONE of your so-called “ideas” above work! You say in reference to the almond oil one that it “works” because its main ingredient is Vitamin E. BS! I’ve used the 100% PURE NATURAL form of vitamin E from capsules and it does NOTHING for dark circles, so common sense clearly dictates that almond oil will also do NOTHING!. You know NOTHING of what you speak!

I’m always surprised how rude people are lol I’m a chemist, so I’ve studied all of the above remedies. Vitamin E capsules have nothing to do with this post. Have you tried almond oil? Anyways, you should learn to be kinder online to people. I’m a mom, a wife, and Have a new little one on the way in just a few weeks. I don’t appreciate comments like this when people don’t know anything about me, my blog, or my life. I’m sure glad I don’t leave comments like this on websites and social media for people to read who work hard on their businesses.
