If you need a homemade fake plant cleaner and shiner, this is the best one!
The older I have gotten, the more artificial and silk plants I have around my house. After my second baby was born, I had less and less time to devote to my potted plants like I used to. So, I started utilizing fake plants, and it has been great.
Many of them I have had for about five years, and they still look good.
The biggest issue with fake plants is how dirty and dusty they get.
This DIY cleaner will help revitalize the look of your artificial plants.
Homemade Fake Plant Cleaner and Shiner
There are many types of store-bought sprays you can purchase along with several types of homemade cleaners you can make for artificial plant cleaning.
I have found rubbing alcohol to work the best for mine, so this is what I recommend for getting rid of dust and dirt on the leaves.
Ingredients For Homemade Fake Plant Cleaner:
- 1/2 cup water
- 1/2 cup rubbing alcohol
- Spray bottle
- Microfiber cloth
- Mushroom funnel (just for fun)
Directions:
- Mix up the ingredients in a spray bottle, then shake gently before each spray.
By the way, you can find all my favorite artificial plants plus the ingredients you need to clean them in my Amazon Shop List for faux plants.
How To Use This DIY Artificial Plant Cleaning Spray:
This spray is very easy to use. Simply spray and saturate the artificial plant leaves you are wanting to clean. Scrub and buff it with your microfiber cloth. That’s it!
For a more powerful clean, slightly dampen your microfiber cloth before scrubbing the fake plant. Damp microfiber will enhance the cleaning power of the cloth.
Why Rubbing Alcohol And Not Vinegar For Cleaning Fake Plants?
Another common household ingredient for cleaning faux plants is vinegar, but I have used both vinegar and rubbing alcohol for all the artificial plants at my house. The rubbing alcohol cleaned them better and removed more dirt. It also provided more of a shine to the leaves!
Is the microfiber cloth necessary?
Yes, I think it is. The way micro fibers are made makes it incredibly successful for absorbing dirt and dust. You can use a microfiber damp or dry for different impacts. The microfiber will help the rubbing alcohol adhere to the dust or dirt on the surface of an artificial plant, removing any debris.
If you are new to using microfiber, check out our blog post on the science behind how it works. And also check out this great article on all the ways you can clean with it. I bought this package of microfiber in 2019, and I am still using it.
If you want to take it a step further…
Another DIY cleaning solution that works as a homemade fake plant cleaner is our DIY all-purpose cleaner from the Ebook on page 13. This cleaner features rubbing alcohol, water, and some dish soap in a ratio that makes it fantastic for anything. I have found it cleans artificial plants very well too. Just something to keep in mind if your plants are really dirty and in bad shape. Otherwise, this solution in our post today is great!
If you don’t have the eBook, another recipe to use is our DIY patio furniture cleaner which is a similar solution.
Before and After Pictures Using This Homemade Cleaner:
I love these before and after pictures using this DIY solution! It removes dirt and dust very well.
You will enjoy using this homemade spray for all your faux plants inside and outside! If you don’t have any artificial plants, I recommend getting some for fun. They are a great way to add some color and beauty around the home year after year.

I am not sure why you are having issues, I just used this link on three browsers and it worked. My mom clicked on it from her computer and it opened right up. I wonder if you have a firewall or popup blocker enabled that won’t allow you to open new tabs from websites? See if you can clear your history and clear cookies/cache from. your browser. Also see if you can copy and past the link into your browser instead of clicking on it? Also, see if you can just go to http://www.amazon.com/shop/chemistrycachet on your browser and see if amazon opens like that. I want to help you figure this out!! lol Let me know if any of those tips work. My amazon shop above has a faux plant list with all these details too
