Homemade Glass Shower Door Cleaning Spray
(Great For Maintenance)
My glass shower door has an enduroshield coating. This is the recipe also recommended by the manufacturer, so it is perfectly safe for both coated and non-coated glass.
Ingredients for homemade glass shower door cleaning spray:
- 1 part 5% white distilled vinegar (I am using 1/4 cup)
- 4 parts water (I am using 1 cup, tap water is fine for this)
- Funnel
- Spray Bottle (I love the mister bottles)
- Microfiber cloth or paper towel
For easier navigation, be sure to check out our idea list which contains all products needed for this project.
Directions:
- In your spray bottle, add in 1/4 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of water. The funnel makes this easy.
- Give the solution a gentle shake to make sure it is mixed up properly.
***Storage: This solution will last years in the spray bottle, so just store it like you normally would any store bought cleaners.
How To Use Homemade Glass Shower Door Cleaning Spray:
Spray your glass shower door with a thick coat of this solution. Make sure to pay special attention to any hard water spots (like the photo above). Let it sit a few minutes, then wipe off with a microfiber cloth or paper towel for a streak free shine.
I recommend using this about once a week or a few times per month. Make sure to always squeegee your glass shower door after showering daily. This keeps hard water from building up longer!
Even though this is considered very mild and safe for most glass shower doors, always test a small area when you make a DIY cleaner for the first time.
Don’t Forget To Spray Inside and Out
Make sure you spray the outside of your shower door as well as the fixtures with this homemade cleaning spray! It works great for all the surfaces of your glass shower door.
How Does This DIY Glass Shower Door Cleaner Work?
The science behind this recipe is very simple. The acidity of the vinegar works to remove hard water spots and any soap scum on the door. Being diluted to a 4:1 ratio with water makes it gentle and safe to use on all types of glass. As I mentioned, I have an enduroshield coating on mine. The manufacturer of this also recommends at 4:1 ratio for safe cleaning and maintenance.
If you do NOT have a coated glass shower door, you can use more aggressive cleaners like the ones mentioned in this glass shower door cleaning post.
Can This Spray Be Used On The Shower Itself?
While this is made for glass, it can also be used on ceramic or regular tile. I don’t recommend using it on grout or natural stone. Although the acidity is very mild, it is best to avoid anything acidic on this surfaces. I recommend our all-purpose cleaner if you have natural stone!
