Today we are sharing how to heal a blemish overnight with Niacinamide!
This was a tip I shared on Instagram stories a few years ago, but I thought it needed a good blog post too.
You actually need two products to achieve this result, but just using Niacinamide 10% will also be beneficial.
Let’s dive into the science and how to use this!
How to Heal a Blemish Overnight With Niacinamide
After we share the directions, please be sure to scroll down below to read a little science behind how this works. It is really fascinating to understand what is going on behind the scenes, plus what makes it work so well.
What you need to heal a blemish overnight:
-
Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% (I buy this one, it is sold out often, so I alsobuy this one.)
-
Tea Tree Oil (This is a good affordable brand or Now brand if you can find it)
- Q-Tip
How to apply to a blemish for healing:
- First, make sure to cleanse your face well with a gentle cleanser. I have been using Fleur & Bee’s cleanser and enjoy it.
- Make sure your face is dry, then with a q-tip gentle pat on the Niacinamide serum.
- After it dries, gently dab on the tea tree oil with a q-tip.
- You can apply the rest of your nightly skincare routine AROUND the blemish, make sure not to put any other product over this solution though.
When will you see results?
My blemish is gone the next morning. If you have acne or something hormonal, it will certainly be almost gone the next day, but might need another nightly treatment. For simple little zits or blemishes, this formula has worked for me EVERY TIME! I made my husband try it out a few months ago when he had a blemish on this nose. He didn’t believe me, but it was gone the next morning for him too!
Important Info on Tea Tree Oil:
Always use caution with tea tree oil on skin. You are using a tiny amount of it on top of niacinamide, so it always works for me. If you have sensitive skin or have never used tea tree oil before, just make sure you are using a very small amount.
Can you use Niacinamide routinely?
Yes, this product is fantastic for pore reduction, blemishes, and skin tone. I will use this often on my nose and cheek area even without a blemish. I double up these two products when I do have some sort of zit.
But, how does this work??
Both tea tree oil and Niacinamide are good products for reducing and healing blemishes. I have found using them together is very powerful.
Niacinamide For Blemishes
Niacinamide is a form of Vitamin B3. It has a powerful impact on inflamed skin due to the chemical structure. Many foods contain Vitamin B3 like eggs, fish, or milk, but using a concentrated version in a serum is very successful at directly reducing redness or inflammation.
The Susan G. Koman website goes into some detail about pairing it with minerals like zinc for more effect. This is true for topical treatments also which is why I love this Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1% solution in one serum.
Here is some other things Niacinamide can help with according to Healthline:
- fine lines and wrinkles
- hyperpigmentation
- acne
- inflammation
- pore minimizing
- sun damage
Basically, this little serum can help address all of these inflammatory or discoloration issues in the skin which is why it works SO well for a blemish.
Tea Tree Oil For Blemishes
As we mentioned above, pairing tea tree oil with an already powerful serum will enhance healing a blemish overnight. Four years ago, we actually shared a very thorough post breaking down the use of tea tree oil for your skin! This continues to be a very popular post because it talks about the chemistry behind this oil, but also all the ways you can use it for your skin. Basically, tea tree oil will act as an anti-microbial and drying agent. It shrinks swollen pores, but also heals blemishes.
I use tea tree oil for SO many things. Oh, it also makes a great mold remover for your house too.
What Happens When You Combine Them Together?
When you do this two step treatment, you are getting the best of both products. The Niacinamide on its own heals blemishes so well, but adding in tea tree oil is the key to overnight healing! I have been using this together for many years, and it is always my go to.
Where Can I Buy These Products?
Amazon! I buy them on Amazon, and get them within a day or two. The Niacinamide is found here, it is such a popular product it can be hard to find. I have also used this niaciamide which I highly recommend.. I like to use Now tea tree or Plant Therapy. For some reason, it has been difficult to find Now brand on Amazon (not sure why), so really just find anything affordable for this. Don’t get anything super expensive 🙂

Talk With Your Dermatologist If You Struggle With Acne
This post is for those random zits or pimples that pop up at the worst time. This post is NOT for those who struggle with clinical acne. Niacinamide is a good product to use and can be very beneficial for acne, but you need to see a doctor first. Acne can be caused from many things, so a doctor will need to evaluate this for you.

Hi Alexis,
I had my knee replaced two and a half weeks ago. Would Niacinamide and Tea Tree Oil work well on healing this incision or any other wound?

Alexis says
Hi! I don’t think this would be good to use on an incision, but something that helped me after my knee surgery was using rosehip seed oil on the incision! I also used it on my c-section scar one it was healing.

Well then, rosehip seed oil it is! Thank you!

I am 70 years old and was still having acne outbreaks from time to time. I started using these products several months ago after seeing your recommendation on the blog. My skin looks better than it ever has as far as the acne. It has also faded the discoloration on my face and pores look smaller. Thank you so much. I always look forward to your posts.
