Dozen of readers have asked me over the last year is The Pink Stuff really a miracle cleaner?

Thanks to TikTok, this product has become all the rage.

To research this post, the first thing I did was reach out to the manufacturer for their MSDS to see all the ingredients. Next, I purchased the product to test out how it cleaned, the texture, and just play around with it.

Here are the results.

Is The Pink Stuff Really A Miracle Cleaner? Plus Ingredient Breakdown

I have spent a few months checking out this product online and researching articles. Many blog posts share how it cleans, but I have not seen any of them talk about the ingredients. The readers who have reached out to me about this product have mainly wanted details on what is inside this cleaner and why it works!

So, let’s start this post today with the answer to the question: what is the pink stuff made of?

Don’t forget to join us on Instagram for more information and videos like this!!

Here are the ingredients for The Pink Stuff according to the MSDS I was sent:

  • Quartz (30-60%)
  • Sodium Palmate (1-5%)
  • Sodium Cocoate (1-5%)
  • Glycerine (<1%)

The ingredients seem pretty basic, in fact, they are very similar to laundry bar soap. You can read about our laundry soap breakdown in this post. The only difference is the quartz! I also requested they send me the complete ingredient list.

They sent the following information in order from largest to smallest in abundance:

  • Quartz
  • Sodium palmate, sodium palm kernalate, Sodium Carbonate, Sodium Silicate, Sodium Bicarbonate
  • Glycerin
  • LAURYLAMINE DIPROPYLENEDIAMINE
  • Parfum
  • Dimethicone

To clarify, here is some information on the ingredients not listed on the MSDS. Laurylamine dipropylenediamine is a common surfactant. It is listed towards the bottom, so this means there is not much in it. Dimethicone is a common silicone-based ingredient that keeps all the other ingredients from separating. It is very common in personal care and skincare products. Sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate are washing soda and baking soda respectively. We have a great post sharing information on both of these ingredients!

Quartz in cleaning products

Quartz is a non-toxic ingredient found in abrasive cleaners. It’s a powder form that gently scrubs. This is the main ingredient in The Pink Stuff. Since it makes up the large portion of this cleaner, I can see why it is a popular choice for scrubbing ovens, stovetops, and bathroom surfaces.

Sodium Palmate

This ingredient is a surfactant that removes dirt and oil. We shared this information in the laundry bar soap post. The EWG even likes this ingredient.

Sodium Cocoate

Sodium Cocoate is derived from coconut oil. It’s a surfactant and a cleanser, and it is a natural alternative to sodium lauryl sulfate.

Glycerin

Glycerin is a natural solvent, and common in things like laundry bar soap, hand soap, and hair products.

Testing the Pink Stuff For Cleaning

Okay, I am going to be honest with you here. I really thought this product was going to be more hype than actually something I loved. Most “viral” products like this are not really mind-blowing to me. However, after using it on specific surfaces, I was blown away! My husband was truly amazed lol. In fact, I couldn’t get him to stop cleaning the bath tub one day.

I tried it on dozens of surfaces in my house. I found it was incredible for certain areas, and not good at all for others.

Here is what I discovered using The Pink Stuff:

The Bath Tub

WOW! 10 stars for bath tub cleaning. This porcelain tub has had some stain on it for many years due to a non-slip coating on the bottom. I have tried everything on it, but it seemed like they were permanent. The picture below it already has a coating of paste on it by the way, I almost forgot to take a before picture. It removed every single speck on this tub and made it sparkle and look brand new.

My husband spent all morning cleaning this and couldn’t stop. He was so amazed! It does take some elbow grease, and takes awhile to clean a large surface. It was worth it! By the way, if you give a Marine a task like this, they will do it 100% until the job is finished. He did the entire tub with a toothbrush LOL. Here is a before and after I snapped of the corner part of the tub. The pink stuff made it sparkle!

Before picture of bath tub with pink stuff already coated on the bottom, after picture is sparkling white!

Cleaning the Glass Stove Top

It was awesome for this! It worked like Bon Ami, which is my favorite. But the texture is already a paste, so you don’t need a damp cloth. It cleans it so well. I recommend using a sponge to rub in a circular motion which gets off anything burnt or stuck. Then follow up with a microfiber to buff it out. I did this and the glass was very shiny after. It also removed water spots where I had just cleaned off the stove with a wet paper towel (this is the before picture).

Grout

I wasn’t a fan of this on grout. I prefer my DIY solution for grout.

Cleaning the Oven

I thought it did well for oven cleaning, although I didn’t have much grease on the surface. It did a good basic scrub. If you utilize the circular motion to clean, it will get just about anything off a glass or ceramic surface.

Tennis Shoes

Excellent for surfaces like this! You can scrub and rinse tennis shoes, Crocs, or things like this. It cleans it well without much work needed.

Sink Cleaning

It worked good for build up around faucets and drains! I used it around this bathroom faucet, and it didn’t take much effort to get it off.

Glass Shower Door

AMAZING!!! Check out the before and after on the glass shower door here.

What NOT to Use The Pink Stuff On?

After using this everywhere around my house, I highly recommend you avoid using it on painted or coated surfaces. It will remove finishes and paint.

I would avoid using it on flooring or wood as well.

With that being said, it might be a good option if you DID want to remove a bad paint or coating on something.

How Can You Know If The Pink Stuff Will Work For Your Surfaces?

Whenever you try out a new cleaning product, it is always important to test a small area first. Even if you are using it on a surface that is considered safe, I recommend always testing things! You never know if your surface is good quality or not.

Final Verdict On Cleaning With The Pink Stuff

Honestly, I am sold on this! My husband loves it too, so I plan to always keep a jar on hand. Its affordable, fairly basic ingredients and cleaned surfaces like the bath tub better than anything I have seen before.

Looking at the ingredients, it makes since how it works too.

You know I am usually pretty skeptical about these viral trends, but this one was surprisingly great! I think it has some versatile uses, and I look forward to testing it out more on outside things too. I will continue to update you on how it goes!

    Hi Alexis!

I have had this on my Amazon list for a while and just keep ignoring it because I thought it might be all hype like so many other things I have purchased over the years. So, Thank You! Perfect timing! I will be purchasing it and deleting it from my never ending Amazon list! My husband is prior active duty, so he may come in handy for this!!

    Hi,

Can you use it to clean stainless steel pizza pan and cooking pans?
I have been using comet for stainless steel cooking items and I have to scrub.
Also, does it have a smell?

They say you can use it on pans, and I have tested it out on the bottom of mine and it was great! I would still test a small area of your pan to see how it works. It has a faint smell, but it just smells more fresh than anything

I am curious as to whether it is safe to use on glass shower doors to remove the hard scale stuff on them. I was looking at the reviews on Amazon for it and some said that it scratched their glass. What do you think?

I just had a reader on Facebook say it was incredible for her glass shower door! I have not used it on my shower door because I have an Enduroshield coating on it, so I can only use a vinegar solution for cleaning. But she said it was a game changer for her shower door. I think it is worth a try and test a small corner of it.

    Hi Alexis…
I have not heard of The Pink Stuff until I read your post. I HONESTLY thought you were referring to Pepto-Bismol or calamine lotion. ?. Go ahead and laugh at me…
I’m curious to try this on things around my house. Hmmmmm…
And great on hubby “going Marine” on the tub cleaning. Wonder what else he will clean for you!

Calamine lotion is also the awesome pink stuff lol! This product has been trending on social media, so I thought it was time to test it for our readers. I think it is a great tool to have on hand!

I first purchased this product over 40 years ago when it was sold under the brand name Chemico. I saw it demonstrated at a Woolworth’s store. The woman said it was a safer product than cleaners made in the US because it was made in England and the ingredient standards were tougher there.. At that time, it was sold in a metal tin. I loved it, but was unable to find it again until it appeared on TicToc. After some research, I found that the company that originally developed the product decided to concentrate on its industrial metal cleaning products and sold off the household cleaner division. When I bought the Pink Stuff, I felt like I had reconnected with an old friend. I remember the consistency as being denser, but the results are the same. I’m glad it’s available on Amazon so I won’t have to search for it again. I’m too old to wait another 40 years for the next purchase.

    Hi Alexis,
I’m the person with the cloudy glasses from the dishwasher. Your diagnosis was correct as was your fix! I have an almost empty bottle of Soft Scrub total bath and bowl. It can be used upside down or right side up and as a foam or spray.
I’d like to refill it with cleaner recommended by you. Any thoughts?

Hi! I am happy my fix worked for you! I have a DIY soft scrub recipe found here, but there is not much you can add homemade wise to one of those existing bottles to get the same effect.

There is a recipe in the eBook using borax, and we have some tips in this post on using borax. Otherwise, our homemade ant spray is found here.

I’m going to try pink stuff for my cooktop. It had dark areas in the middle of the burner that I can’t get rid of, any suggestions?

The pink stuff can work for that. I would use a razor blade scraper for getting off any stuck on or burnt residue then follow up with a cleaner like the pink stuff. I also really love using Bon Ami like I showed in this post.

Doesn’t this also have red dye in it though? It is listed as an ingredient in their website but not the type, just “Dye” that “gives it a nice pink color”

You can email the manufacturer to ask them. I emailed them about an MSDS for this post and they emailed back right away. This is the contact page.

It is a silicon polymer. It is derived from silica, a natural ingredient derived from sand or quartz.
