Today I am answering the question: is this popular stain remover worth the hype?

Many months ago, I purchased this stain remover to test it out after getting many requests from readers. You might have seen this bottle circulating the internet with claims on how fantastic it is!

I love to buy these “viral cleaning products” to see if they are really all that great. Plus, it is fun to look at the science and ingredients to see what makes them work.

This is how I discovered The Pink Stuff and it ended up being one of my all-time favorite cleaning products for the home!

Anyways, let’s check this product out more.

Is This Popular Stain Remover Worth The Hype?

Is This Popular Stain Remover Worth The Hype?

This Miss Mouth’s Messy Eater Stain Treater has been showing up on Facebook, Instagram and Tik Tok for the last year or so.

I bought it and started trying it out for some clothing and baby products.

My first thought was wow, this does work! Amelia had a grape jelly stain on her t-shirt I tested first. I sprayed the solution on it, let it sit a few minutes, then I put it in a regular wash cycle. It came out completely clean!

How Exactly Does This Messy Eater Stain Treater Work?

The ingredients are very minimal in this product:

  • Ethoxylated Alcohol C12-C15 (a 100% Biodegradable non-ionic surfactant)
  • Glycerin
  • Sodium Sulphite (Food Grade Additive)
  • Ethanol
  • Citric Acid

Let’s talk about each of these ingredients.

Ethoxylated alcohol is a biodegradable surfactant. This is an ingredient you see in things like degreasers and detergents. It is safe and non-toxic, so it doesn’t cause skin irritation.

Glycerin is a natural solvent. It is good in cleaning products as well as stain removal.

Next is sodium sulphite. This ingredient is often found in detergents and stain removers to protect the machine from corrosion.

Ethanol is alcohol, and it is another common addition in cleaning products.

The last ingredient on the list is citric acid! Citric acid is one of my favorite ingredients in cleaners, and also in DIY cleaners like this toilet bowl cleaner. Citric acid is a weak acid naturally occurring in citrus.

All of these ingredients combined make a very unique and effective stain remover!

What Does It Work On?

Really anything, but I have found it to be really good on dirt stains and also food stains. Amelia gets jelly on her clothes often. I will spray this solution on the jelly, then wash normally in the washing machine. It takes the stain right away.

I also use it on dirt stains around her jackets as you can see in the picture. I just saturate the dirt stain, then wash!

Does it Work As a Spot Treatment?

Some stain removers you can spray on a stain, let it sit, and it is good. I have found this stain remover works best as a prewash treatment instead of a spot treatment. It works best if you can use it on a stain then put the clothing in the washing machine. This is a common with solutions like this that are alcohol based versus peroxide based!

Is The Cost Worth It?

This comes in a pack of two for about $14. That is $7 per container, and I have been using this since the beginning of the year. I have not gotten through even one container yet! So, it will last a long time. These two bottles should last you at least one year! So, I do think the costs is worth it 🙂

Conclusion

I can see why this stain remover has become popular. It has non-toxic simple ingredients, and it works for a variety of stains! I would definitely recommend this for anyone to keep on hand.

The ingredients are science based, and I have had a great results using it this year especially for my kid’s clothes!
