feeling like summer in texas

The weather has been fairly mild for a Texas summer, only the low to mid 90s most of June. But it’s definitely feeling like summer in Texas this week! The 4th of July was really hot and humid, but it wouldn’t be the 4th in Texas without it 🙂

My parents had their annual 4th of July party, and it was so much fun! So many old friend got to come over, so it reminded me of all the parties we had growing up!

summer in texas by the lake

The fireworks come up right over the lake, so it is the perfect spot to watch! Even though it was hot, it was still a beautiful day. We have had some random rain showers this week, so everything was nice and green.

4th of july cake

I shared the behind the scenes on snapchat (add: alexisroch)  and instagram of make this cake, and it was a huge hit! Dairy-free, gluten-free poke cake! This is the one I make every year, and it is definitely everyone’s favorite 🙂

One of my oldest friends (almost 30 years!) got to come for the 4th! She hasn’t been there in about 15 years, so it was neat she got to come again 🙂 I shared her wedding photo a few years ago with my old one in this post.  We’ve looked the same since we were little….she’s always tall and blonde….and I am always short and brunette lol

My husband brought home some pink roses and iced coffee one day last week just because! I was having a stressful day, so it was such a nice surprise. Our 10 year wedding anniversary is coming up in a few weeks, and he is still so sweet and thoughtful 🙂

Sounds like a fun 4th of July party and so good to reconnect with longtime friends. Sweet surprises “just because” from the hubby are the best! Enjoy the weekend! Emily @ Martinis & Bikinis
