Today I wanted to share these reasons why mineral sunscreen is better than chemical sunscreen for your face!

I just had my annual skincare screening this month, and I thought it would be an important time to share a post on sunscreen with you. Sunscreen is a non-negotiable part of any skincare routine. But with so many options on the shelf, choosing the right one can feel overwhelming. Especially with all the skincare and makeup products that now contain sunscreen in them.

This article will explore why mineral sunscreen might be the superior choice for your face, especially when compared to chemical sunscreens. We’ll delve into the quick science behind how mineral sunscreens work, their benefits for sensitive skin, and how they can even offer broader sun protection.

Why Mineral Sunscreen Is Better Than Chemical Sunscreen For Your Face

Do you use sunscreen for your face? If you don’t, it is time to think about it. I had skin cancer removed from my face about 10 years ago, and I became more serious about sunscreen use.

Take advantage of my discount code for 40% off to try a good quality mineral sunscreen which can be more powerful for sun protection.

What Exactly Is Mineral Sunscreen?

Mineral sunscreen (use code alexisroch for 40% off), also sometimes called physical sunscreen, is a type of sun protection that sits on top of your skin and deflects the sun’s ultraviolet (UV) rays. Unlike chemical sunscreens, which absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, mineral sunscreens use mineral ingredients, like zinc oxide and titanium dioxide, to create a physical barrier on your skin’s surface. This barrier reflects UVA and UVB rays away from your skin, helping to prevent sunburn and premature aging.

Mineral VS Chemical Sunscreen

As we mentioned above, mineral sunscreen works as a physical sunscreen, blocking and reflecting the UV rays. Chemical sunscreen, however, absorbs UV rays. Chemical sunscreens contain ingredients like oxybenzone and avobenzone that absorb UV rays and convert them into heat, which is then released from the skin.

Why Does Mineral Sunscreen Make a Better Option For Your Face?

When it comes to why mineral sunscreen is better than chemical sunscreen for your face, the answer is simple. Mineral sunscreen is gentler on skin making it more ideal for those with sensitive skin or conditions like eczema. It is also reef-safe, and it provides broad spectrum protection, so it can effectively block both UVA and UVB rays.

The downside many people have with mineral sunscreen is it doesn’t absorb as well on your face and can leave a white cast on the skin. However, there are great formulations now that allow you to use mineral sunscreen without the white cast. I use this one (code alexisroch) for my face and it is NOT greasy and has no white cast which is unusual, but it works great!

How to use mineral sunscreen without a white cast?

To use mineral sunscreen (code alexisroch) on your face correctly, use the following steps.

  • Apply liberally as the last step in your skincare routine, before makeup and 15 minutes before sun exposure.
  • Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating, immediately after towel drying, or at least every 2 hours.

They also have a tinted option!

If you are looking for a good tinted sunscreen, this is the one (use code alexisroch) I have used for years now! They have a light or medium/deep option. I have olive complexion, so I like to use the medium/deep. It works perfect with my skin. If you have lighter skin, the light option is the best choice. Don’t forget to always use my discount code alexisroch at checkout which works on all products.

So if my moisturizer is 30 SPF and my makeup is 30 SPF does that mean I have 60 SPF on?!! I don’t think so??

No, layering SPF doesn’t change it. It would still be 30 SPF
