I get many questions about laundry! Today, I want to share these must have laundry items that will save you time, money, AND eliminate more unnecessary chemicals.
To be honest, laundry isn’t something I worry about chemical wise. I use what works! But, many of our readers have issues with skin irritation or want to get rid of as many chemicals as possible in their homes. So, I wanted to include some great NATURAL laundry items in this too.
Other products in this will really make your life easier too!
I personally LOVE doing laundry. I enjoy the smell of fresh clothes and satisfaction of cleaning, folding, and putting away laundry 🙂 Call me weird, but I love it!
Okay, here are some great items to try out and include in your laundry routine!
Must Have Laundry Items That Save Time, Money & Unnecessary Chemicals!
Mesh Laundry Bags
These are really convenient and will save so much time sorting through all those dedicates like bras, underwear, and socks (especially little baby socks!). For only 7.99, this includes five different size bags to use also! Socks seem to always get lost in the wash, so this is a game changer!
Natural Wool Dryer Balls
A cheap and non-chemical fabric softener! These wool dryer balls are reusable, so it is cost efficient. For those who want to eliminate chemicals, this is a great option!
Detergent Free Laundry Balls
Chemical free laundry cleaning! This is so cool and very cost efficient! These little laundry balls are so easy to use. You just pop them into a load of laundry, no detergent needed. And they are reusable! They clean clothes well, and you can add in some essential oil for scent.
Biodegradable Environmentally Friendly Stain Remover Sticks
These are completely natural stain removing sticks! It removes all types of stains with a few natural ingredients! All you do is rub the clothing stain with some warm water and this, then wash normally. It lasts a long time too!
All-Natural Oxygen Brightener
I love using oxygen boosts for white laundry. This product is all natural with just a few simple ingredients, but it works! This is good for people with more sensitive skin, plus it lasts a long time!
Natural Laundry Pre-Treatment Powder
Awesome for really bad smelling laundry! This is completely natural, but works so well for laundry with set in odors. It’s non-toxic and safe for sensitive skin too.
Natural Laundry Soap
This is actually very affordable compared to many natural laundry soaps. It contains just a few simple ingredients, but works good! Plus the lavender scent is amazing!
Retractable Clothes Line
Okay, this is such a handy thing to have in a small laundry space! It saves time because you can just hang up items that don’t need to be dried or that aren’t folded! I have a smaller laundry room and spend time spreading out clothes all over the place to dry (things like underarmor workout clothes, spandex material, etc). This thing is awesome for that!
Clothesline Drying Rack
Like above, this is great for small spaces. It is slightly different then a straight line, but so handy to have a place to hang everything.
Cream of Tartar
What?? You might be wondering why this is on here. Well, it is part of our DIY baby poop stain remover! And it is one of the key ingredients to why this works so well. Check it out here!
All-Purpose Stain Remover
In our eBook, there is also a great all-purpose stain remover that works for just about any type of stain you have lingering on clothes. Cheap and just a few ingredients.

Great list of laundry items. I am going to check them all out. Like you I like to do laundry; can’t stand it when the hamper gets full. I’m curious about the wool dryer balls. Mesh bags are a must! So are drying racks – we made our own of PVC pipes and connectors. This past weekend I was wondering how you do laundry – what products, etc – and here you have it all for me. You’re terrific!

I would love to see a review of Fels-Naptha bars. These cost 97 cents at my local Walmart. I used to use different sticks, but they aren’t cheap. If you just use Fels-Naptha to rub on stains, and not grate pieces off, it will last a very long time. In fact, if you buy a bar Alexis, then there would probably be some left for Amelia’s grandchildren !

I have an article in the works in this smorning nice I’ve had so many readers ask about it! It definitely works well! It has a lot of chemicals in it though 🙁 I should have a post on it in the next few months! 🙂

I was wondering what is bad about mainstream laundry detergent like Tide. I’ve always used basic Tide, not the “specialized” ones. Truly wondering what is chemically harmful in them. Just trying to make better laundry choices ?
Alexis says
I actually have to use Tide for my husbands work clothes, no other detergent gets them clean after testing many types of the years. People are worried about fragrance more than anything, so that causes the concern. You can actually purpose Tide Free & Gentle to get the same cleaning power without added fragrance 🙂

I know this is a super old post, but…. The detergent free laundry balls… Really? I would to know more about these. I did some reading in the past but it just seems so hard to believe!?!?

Hi Laura! They are pretty neat. The inside is filled with these ceramic beads that reduce negative ions and water surface tension separating dirt from fabric. I think they work well for basic laundry and worth a try!
