I’d like to share a story with you today of my favorite childhood Christmas memories.
Christmas is my favorite holiday. Since I was a young girl, I’ve always looked forward to this season.
This time of year is full of traditions and nostalgia which always makes me remember Christmases of the past.
Although I have dozens of memories from Christmas, these are my favorite 🙂
Reading The Nightmare Before Christmas and Jesus’ birth story every single Christmas Eve is one of my favorite Christmas Memories. On Christmas Eve, after we set out cookies and milk for Santa and all comfortable in our pajamas, my Dad would read us The Night Before Christmas. The book copy was a very old one from when he was a little kid. I can still remember how magical it felt hearing the story read to us thinking about Santa Claus making his way to our house at that very moment. I would get so excited, I couldn’t even sit still!
After he finished that book, he would read to us the story of Jesus’ birth and talk about the true meaning of Christmas. I can’t wait to start this tradition with Amelia! Here are my other favorite traditions 🙂
Another favorite memory of mine was the Christmas when I was nine years old. I was in the 4th grade, so I was beginning to wonder if Santa was really true. I was hearing rumors from my friends that Santa DIDN’T exist. My best friend Jessica and I were very concerned about this. We wondered what we could do to find out the truth!
We schemed that year to not tell our parents what we were going to ask Santa for.
When we sat on Santa’s lap that year, I made sure my parents were far away so they couldn’t hear anything we said. I asked for an American girl doll. I wanted the 1800s girl Kirsten. I didn’t say a word to my parents…only Jessica knew about it.
On Christmas morning I woke up bright and early, ran into the living room to see if Santa existed. And sure enough, there was Kirsten sitting out. I thought OMG, HE DOES EXIST! He has to because my parents have no idea this is what I wanted!
I called my friend that day, and she was thrilled she got her Santa gift too.
Years later, I asked my mom and dad how in the world they knew? My mom told me it was really hard not to know I wanted one. I had the magazines and had book marked my favorite one months earlier LOL.
I am grateful for that Christmas because it kept the magic alive a little longer for us.
Now that I am an adult, I still love Christmas and enjoy these memories. It is such a magical time of year for children. I am so excited to start experiencing this with Amelia soon!

What a lovely Christmas memory! Parents… they always know. Now you’re a parent and are picking up on your baby’s cues. Although she won’t understand the stories, she will love to hear your voice and how excited you are. Has your dad passed The Night Before Christmas book to you, or will you start your own book? Is there a Bible for babies out there – maybe just colorful pictures to catch Amelia’s eyes.

I think he will pass the book down to Amelia this year 🙂 I can’t wait to read it to her! They do have cute baby bibles with photos, so neat for them to look at the colors and pictures
