Today’s post is a ONE ingredient glass stovetop cleaner.

I have used many different items on my glass stovetop including my homemade soft scrub. The homemade soft scrub is probably one of my favorites to use, but it does require assembling the ingredients together.

If you are short on time or want a “harsh chemical free” way to clean your glass stove top, then you will LOVE this post!

One Ingredient Glass Stovetop Cleaner

What You Need To Clean Your Glass Stove Top:

Bon Ami Powder (I buy it here)

Directions On Using It:

  1. Wipe down the glass top with a wet sponge so entire surface is covered with water.
  2. Sprinkle entire surface with Bon Ami powder. You don’t need a large amount, just a light sprinkling.
  3. With a scrub pad or sponge, scrub the top in small circular motions. Concentrate on any areas with burnt food or stuck on residue.
  4. Wipe down entire surface with a wet sponge again.
  5. Use a dry microfiber towel to wipe off surface. Now it is sparkly clean!

Why Bon Ami Powder?

As I mentioned in the beginning of the post, I have many methods of cleaning a glass stovetop. Many of our homemade cleaners do a great job of getting it clean, but I really love using things that are EASY, quick, and safe.

Bon Ami is a pretty awesome product.

Here is why I love using Bon Ami for a glass stovetop:

  • Highly effective at cleaning glass
  • Safe for glass surfaces (it won’t scratch anything)
  • Residue free
  • Harsh chemical free

The Amazing and Simple Chemistry of Bon Ami

This is a very old-fashioned cleaning product I love! Speaking of old-fashioned cleaning products…we have an AWESOME  on old-fashioned cleaning products you can check out here.

Bon Ami made an appearance in 1886! It contains basic, simple ingredients to make it very safe yet effective on cleaning multiple types of surfaces including glass.

Bon Ami Ingredients Include:

  • Limestone
  • Feldspar
  • Surfactant
  • Soda Ash
  • Baking Soda

You are probably familiar with most of the ingredients except feldspar. Feldspar is a mineral group containing alumina and silica. It can be used to make things like ceramics, tiles, glass, and dinnerware. This also makes it very gentle and safe to use for cleaning which it why it is one of the key ingredients in Bon Ami. Here are some more details on feldspar if you would like to learn more.

Soda ash and baking soda are fantastic natural chemicals which have potent scrubbing power in the home.

Surfactants are so important when it comes to eliminating residues.

All these ingredients work together to create a simple cleaner that scrubs away all types of gunk, but also makes your glass SHINY!

Things to Make This Glass Stove Top Cleaner Work Even Better

I really love using these scrub pads! They are the perfect texture for a glass stovetop! They help this powder work even better by getting up burnt food.

Microfiber cloth is one of the best tools for cleaning. I like to use it for drying to eliminate any water spots. It is great for glass!

Bon Ami is good for so many surfaces, we will be sharing more fun tips soon!

Wow… I wish I knew about Bon Ami when I had my glass stovetop! Hubby and I spent so many hours scrubbing that stovetop! Is Bon Ami just a cleaner or is it also a disinfectant? Look forward to learning more about this product that’s been around so long…

It is such a great product! Especially for this! It isn’t a registered disinfectant, but it does remove so many things, it can work as one. Especially in the kitchen

I enjoy using using Bon Ami, too. I was wondering what you thought of Barkeeper’s Friend. I think it’s supposed to be a similar product, and lots of people rave about it. Have you had a chance to use it?

Barkeepers friend is very similar, but a little more abrasive. It has a few extra ingredients in it. I love it for more heavy duty scrubbing. Barkeepers friend will actually be part of my old-fashioned cleaning products post hopefully in the next few weeks 🙂

The manufacturer says to use caution on natural stone since it is slightly abrasive. I don’t use it one marble or quartz

Love this stuff!! I will suggest it to my mother for her stovetop instead of buying all those other expensive products.
