organic pesticides, Organic Ways to Remove Harmful Garden Insects

I have another fantastic article to share with you today from a professional pest control company. Great tips on how to deal with garden insects organically! Enjoy!! – Alexis

When it comes to having pests in your garden, San Antonio locals know that it’s important to keep an eye out for what exactly is crawling around their flowers and produce. Some insects can be beneficial to your garden’s health by promoting healthy soil, aiding in the production of fruit and seeds, and devouring other insects. On the other hand, there are some insects that can damage plants to the point of killing them. But how do you go about removing the bad insects without harming the good? Take a look at the best ways to organically remove harmful insects from your garden to keep your vegetables and flowers in tip-top shape.

Organic Ways to Remove Harmful Garden Insects

Use Organic Pesticides

Organic pesticides are the first of a handful of different ways to remove harmful insects from your garden. Available both from a local pest control professional as well as on a smaller do-it-yourself scale, common organic pesticides should be researched depending on the types of bugs you are trying to remove.

For instance, while some organic pesticides can remove caterpillars and spiders, they may have absolutely no effect on insects such as fleas and beetles. Always remember to conduct thorough research prior to any applications for the best results.

Use All Natural Soaps and Oils

Another way to remove insects from your garden organically is to spray a mix of 100% organic soap and water lightly over the surface of your plants. Simply mix 1 heavy tablespoon of organic or castile soap to 1 quart of water in a medium spray bottle. The mixture will act as a layer of sealant trapping insects and their eggs inside an invisible blanket. It’s lightweight and gentle enough to do no actual harm to the plants themselves.

Timing is essential when using this method of organic pest removal in your garden. It is most effective in the early larval stages of insect development. The best part is that the mixture won’t harm beneficial insects in your garden such as ladybugs, lady beetles or praying mantis.

Lure Insects Into a Trap

Did you know an effective way to remove harmful insects from your garden is to simply set a trap? It’s true. After caulking off and sealing any holes around your home where harmful insects like wasps could potentially make a nest, try setting a trap in your garden or around your house.

For flies and wasps, try setting out a plastic bottle filled sweet, sticky substance like soda. With the exception of a small hole for them to enter, seal off any areas where they may be able to escape. Have snails? There’s a fix for that too. Simply pour a small amount of beer into a cup and place it in the garden. The snails will crawl inside, become trapped, and won’t be able to ruin your precious basil any longer.

Eggshells, Coffee and Cayenne Powder

If you’ve ever had a snail problem in your garden, you know how harmful they can be to your plants. Between the sheer amount of them and the slime trails they leave behind, a handful of snails can quickly ruin a garden. Talk about a nuisance!

But what’s an organic yet effective way to remove these insects from your garden? Try scattering broken eggshells, coffee or cayenne pepper powder. I found from personal experience that scattering these organic products into your garden not only acts as an all natural mulch, but helps to keep snails and other pests at bay!

Use Essential Oils

In addition to smelling great, several organic essential oils have pest-repelling benefits. For example, peppermint oil repels spiders, beetles, aphids and ants. Juniper and thyme oil will help to repel disease-carrying ticks. If you want to leave the research to the professionals, many pest control companies use essential oils as an organic pest control option.

What are some organic pest control methods you use to keep harmful garden insects out of your garden?

Do you have anything that will get rid of Assassin Beatles? They have taken over my milkweed and I don’t want them to kill or disturb the Butterfly crystals or the caterpillars that are present. Theses Beatles are fast and I don’t want to kill them since they do their part by eating aphids and other harmful insects but I read that they like soft bodied insects so I’m thinking the butterflies larva/caterpillars may be in harms way.

    Thank you in advance
