landscaping under window

Today I wanted to share with you a quick landscaping idea under a window that really helps with curb appeal.

I didn’t plan on doing a blog post for this, but after sharing a little video on instagram, I had a lot of interest from readers!

We haven’t shared any landscaping things in awhile, so I thought this would make a great post today.

It has been about one year since we bought our home, and we are slowly adding in some updates and landscaping.

No one had ever done anything to this house before we moved in, so we have worked from scratch on many things.

Here is how we transformed the area under a window.

Quick Landscaping Idea Under A Window For A Great Transformation

I actually chose the plants for this area because we had the same design at our old house and everything did so well in the hot Texas sun. After a few years, the area under our windows grew so much it provided shade and privacy.

Check out the instagram reel we did here.

My husband’s work schedule has been so busy, we worked with a landscape company to plant everything for us. We used Heinrichs Lawn Care and Landscaping, and they did a great job!

I think you will like this landscaping idea under a window or this would be great for fences too.

Plants For Under The Window

This wasn’t a very large area, so for now I went with a few plants. I might add some more eventually, but I wanted to keep it simple for now. These plants will continue to grow pretty large. My dad is a fantastic landscaper, and I get my love of plans from him. He has turned their home over the last 20 years into an incredible area. He has over five or six crape myrtles in his yard that look so amazing in the summers!

Glossy Abelia

These are one of my favorite shrubs for landscaping. They grow very large and make the prettiest white blossoms. Glossy Abelia grow best in zones 6-9. I am near Fort Worth, Tx which is zone 8 and these do fantastic in our area.

My favorite thing about these shrubs is when they start to bloom, they attract butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds.

Crape Myrtle

Crape Myrtles have always been a favorite of mine. Their beautiful blooms make them pretty all summer and part of the fall here in Texas. We usually get blooms from June-October give or take depending on how the weather has been.

They are not evergreen and loose their leaves in the winter, but they do turn a beautiful red in the fall.

The one I have in our new landscaping is a light baby pink. I can’t wait to see it bloom.

Crape myrtles do best in full sun.

Great For Texas and Warm Climates

This area gets full sun most of the day, and we haver very hot dry summers. These particular plants are great for this type of climate.

How it Looks After A Few Years

Here is a picture of our old house. This was a larger space so it had four glossy abelia plants. They grew very large and the crepe myrtle also did too.

It required zero care after a few years even during the hot summers.

More Heat Tolerant Bushes and Shrubs

We shared this post a few years ago with more ideas for heat tolerant bushes to add to your landscaping. These are all the plants we have personally used in our landscaping!

Do you think these plants will work in zone 9B? Sarasota Fl?

I believe they would work great! I would check with your local nursery to make sure, but these plants are great for most higher zones.
