I am so excited to share this post with you today. These reasons to drink alkaline water may surprise you!
Last week, I shared a fun post on my visit to the Crazy Bath House in Mineral Wells for a dip in the mineral bath micro bubble tub.
A big part of why this mineral bath was so beneficial would be the alkaline water found in Mineral Wells. Before I dive into that, I want to talk a little about alkalinity and minerals in water.
PIN THIS
Believe it or not, most water is slightly acidic. When you look at the pH scale, it measures from 0 to 14. Zero being the most acidic thing on earth and the opposite side being alkaline or basic. Highly acidic and highly alkaline substances are equally as dangerous. I worked with some very basic items in chemistry labs that would burn you just as much as a strong acid. Safely speaking, substances that are right around the neutral area on the pH scale (7) are always the best.
Most naturally occurring water, like rainwater, is a bit more acidic than bottled water. There are even some areas that the rainwater is so acidic, it is dangerous to vegetation.
But most of the water you have in your home or out of a bottle will be a tiny bit acidic, or just neutral.
So, what about alkaline water?
Alkalinity has become a new health craze the past few years. You can eat an alkaline diet to cure health problems, cancers, and other issues that are plaguing your body.
For rheumatoid arthritis, I have found that eating a more alkaline diet has been really beneficial for overall inflammation. (P.s- make sure to follow me on snapchat (alexisroch) to see all my behind the scenes on health tips)
That includes alkaline liquids.
Some people who struggle with acid reflux will even add baking soda to water and drink that to ease the symptoms. Baking soda is very alkaline, so mixing it with water creates alkaline water.
There is also alkaline water that comes straight out of the ground. Like in Mineral Wells! The water has such a high mineral content, it is much more alkaline than any water you drink from a bottle or even your normal tap water.
Natural mineral water contains various minerals like calcium, magnesium, potassium, sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), sodium chloride, zinc, silica, and manganese. All of these contribute to the pH, making it higher than other types of water.
What about this “crazy” water?
When I spent some time in Mineral Wells a few weeks ago, and enjoyed the mineral baths, I got to learn about this really unique water they have.
It was fascinating!
First of all, the water became known as crazy water decades ago. Back in the early 20th century, people were all about natural cures for all their ailments. This was before prescription medication was popular, so sick people would travel almost anywhere to get healed or cured from diseases. Mineral Wells was known to have water that could cure you of all your problems.
Even those who were crazy in the head. In fact, a women who was mentally ill started drinking the water, and was cured of her mental illness! Hence the name, “crazy” water. Keep up with Crazy Water on Facebook.
This water really did help her due to the Lithium content! Yes Lithium!
What exactly is in crazy water?
They have four wells that pump water giving the different types of water. Number 1 is a basic natural water. Number 2 and 3 are a little alkaline with a pH of 7.5, and number 4 comes in with a pH of 8.2. That is pretty alkaline for drinking water!
And number 4 is the big one for health problems.
Here is a neat chart showing the mineral content for each one.
How cool is that? This water already comes with a large dose of minerals your body needs daily to function. No wonder this water was known to cure your aches and pains!
Obviously, alkaline water, especially with a pH of 8.2, will have a strong taste. I have been using this as a base for my smoothies in the morning and it is wonderful.
I shared one of my favorite smoothie recipes on instagram a few weeks ago. Alkaline water has been an awesome addition to the smoothie base. Not only do I get the health benefits of my powerful smoothie (thanks to full lemon peels and juice), but I get this added mineral content of the water. If you suffer from any health issues, I highly recommend trying it!

If you have the chance to try crazy water, I highly recommend it. You can also scope out some mineral water in your area to use for health benefits!

Thanks for the advice. Have long followed the alkaline tending diet as it is easier on my stomach! Where can you buy the crazy water?
Alexis says
Alkaline diets are so good for so many things! I buy it locally in Mineral Wells, but you can check out your local stores for mineral water with a higher pH (anything above 7 will be alkaline, but something above 7.5 will be best). I will be posting some more stuff on this crazy water soon, and more places to buy it soon. This is unique because it has so many minerals that you don’t find often in other ground water, even other mineral waters.

I contacted them, and it looks like their website is down for some reason. They said it was some technical issues, so I would try back later. I will keep an eye on it too!

I live in East Texas and have been drinking crazy water for many years now. It is one of my go to things to drink whenever my body feels depleted. I have not got to make it to the bath house yet though.
