Today, I am sharing an easy science based cold and flu survival kit.
These are items and tips that have helped us over the years, and I hope they can help you too!
Science Based Cold and Flu Survival Kit
I started writing this post in 2021, but it went into my drafts because I had some important projects to finish.
Last year, I meant to publish it too, but my son was born in October, and then my entire family got sick with the colds and the flu for the rest of the fall.
Last fall was ROUGH for our family with sicknesses. In fact, I don’t remember a season quite like that in my life. Even when I was a kid, I don’t remember being that sick.
From what I heard, many people experienced a rough fall in 2022 with back to back illnesses.
I pray this year is not the same, but just in case you experience illnesses this season, I have some fantastic science based tips to help you through it.
Keep This Boiron Oscillococcinum on Hand for Relief from Flu-Like Symptoms
I bought this last year, and it was super helpful! If you feel like you are getting the flu or a cold, this is great to take. This homeopathic ingredient, Anas barbariae, is a proven treatment in flu like symptoms and prevention. I took this last year while having a cold, and it helped a lot. We keep this on hand now just in case.
Disinfect With Force of Nature
The flu hit my house earlier this month, and I used Force of Nature to disinfect everything for my kiddos. The reason I love this product for disinfecting is how powerful it works, it is safe for any surface, and it is safe for kids and pets. You can disinfect children’s toys and eating surfaces too. Once you purchase the initial kit, all you need to buy in the future is the salt capsules! I have shared this many time over the years, and I have heard good feedback from readers too.I buy it on Amazon.
Take Leefy Organics Immune Support
This is the same brand of turmeric we love, and I now keep their immune support on hand for this time of year. I have to be careful with immune support products because it will aggravate my RA symptoms. But this one has been good for me. I bought it last year as well during all of our illnesses, and it helped my husband and I feel better quicker. I wish I had purchased it earlier in the season!
Try Delsym Cough Suppressant
Last fall when I was so sick, I also had a horrible cough. My best friend is an RN and her sister is a pharmacist, and they both recommended Delsym to me. The active ingredient, Dextromethorphan, is a great cough suppressant especially the coughs that don’t produce anything (dry coughs). Before using this, I had personally tried many over the counter options and homeopathic options without any relief.
Keep Reusable Ice Packs In The Freezer
These are for kids, but we like them for the adults too. These little packs are so handy to keep in the freezer for fevers and headaches. I used an ice pack so much last year on my head! Ice packs are the best and quickest headache relief for me. I use this for fevers too.
Get This Natural Pain Potion For Headaches
I also like this brand for relieving sinus pressure and headaches. I keep this on hand year round for allergies, but it is also great for cold and flu.
Keep Raw Honey on Hand For Tea
I make tea with raw honey, a lot of lemon juice, and chamomile tea when I am sick. The combination gives me a little boost of energy, but also soothes a sore throat.
Get Some Throat Coat Cough Drops
Lastly, try some of these throat coat cough drops. They helped with a very raw sore throat last year, but also slowed my coughing. I also keep Ricola brand on hand, but these worked a little better for me!
Disclaimer: Please Ask Your Doctor
This is not medical advice. I must add this into any post talking about health related tips because it is important to check with your personal doctor if you have any health problems. If you are running a fever, feeling sick or anything like this, call your physician. These are my personal tips that have helped me through cold and flu season! I am a chemist, so I like to look at the science and ingredients, so these are science-based tips.
I hope this science based cold and flu survival kit comes in handy for you this season!
