Today we are sharing part 2 in our series skin care products tested by a chemist, also known as skin care empties.
Readers really enjoy these posts where we share a full review of products that are completely finished.
None of these products are sponsored, but products I have purchased for myself to try out.
Let’s check out this newest list.
Skin Care Products Tested By a Chemist Part 2
One request I had from readers on this was to share the reviews more often. I was doing them about twice a year which meant the lists were much longer.
I had several readers email me after the last post asking if I could do them every few months instead.
This was a great idea! I hope it is more helpful to you.
Why Are These Skin Care Products Tested By A Chemist So Important?
In 2020, I began a series on “skincare empties” because I noticed many influencers online were using a product for a week or two, then sharing it. One influencer I followed even said,I have used this a week, and I love it. It can take 30-60 days using a skin care product to know if it actually works!
I have used something for a week, and I thought it seemed fine. But then four weeks into it, I realized it was irritating my skin.
On the flip side, I have used something for two weeks without any results. But then 30 days into using it, I can see improvements. So, it is best to always allow proper time on skin care to see how it will truly impact your skin.
Thankfully, you have me as a chemist to find science-based skin care products to test out, then report back to you my review!
A QUICK NOTE ABOUT THESE SKIN CARE PRODUCTS TESTED BY A CHEMIST – MANY OF THESE BRANDS HAVE GIVEN CHEMISTRY CACHET READERS A DISCOUNT CODE TO USE! ALL GOOD SCIENCE BEAUTY, FRE, AND PROMISE BRANDS WILL HAVE A CODE. I CONTINUE TO REACH OUT TO BRANDS TO SEE IF THEY WILL GIVE OUR READERS SOMETHING 🙂
Clean Skin Club Towels
If you are sick of using a towel to dry your face or wipe off makeup, these disposable towels are fantastic! I was doing some research into breakouts and irritation on your skin, and the towels we use on our face can contribute to bacteria and irritation. My dermatologist had talked to me about using soft disposable facial towels on my skin to help with eczema issues. I found these, and they are wonderful! I give these 5 stars and highly recommend anyone buying these.
I also love how sturdy these are. After you wipe off your face, you can use the towel to clean and dry the sink too.
MOON JUICE MOON JELLY
I have used the Moon Juice supplements before which I have shared with readers, their products are good quality. I decided to try their hyaluronic acid serum. I loved it! This is the second bottle I have used now. The thickness makes it a great hyaluronic acid option since it forms a nice layer when it you apply it to damp skin. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in our bodies. It’s known for its ability to hold moisture, making it a fantastic ingredient for hydrating the skin.I am always on the lookout for a hyaluronic acid serum that works, and this one makes the list!
FRE Foaming Face Wash
The only face wash I use is FRE’s powerful, gentle foaming face wash. It removes makeup while gently cleansing AND moisturizing your face. This is the coolest, science based face wash you can buy. Use my discount code alexisroch for 40% off at checkout too (discount codes do not work on subscriptions).
Stella and Grace Hyaluronic Acid
I chose this brand of hyaluronic acid to try because I have used several of their products including the under eye patches and makeup remover. I didn’t like this one due to the watery texture. I think overall it worked okay, but I prefer a thicker, serum like hyaluronic acid. I won’t repurchase this one.
FRE Hand Sanitizer
I shared a post about this several months ago, but my favorite hand sanitizer that has healed my hands and also moisturizes while sanitizing, is this fantastic product. This is probably my 4th or 5th container of it. I purchase it for Christmas gifts too (more on that next week). When you use my discount code alexisroch at checkout, you get a great price on it (40% off right now). And it lasts many months as well.
FRE Argan Oil
This lovely pure Argan Oil (code alexisroch) is my secret to soft and hydrated nails, cuticles, and feet. I had purchased this awhile back and was using it to treat very dry spots on my face, and I noticed how soft and smooth my hands were after applying it. I started using it on my cuticles and nails as well as my feet, and I am blown away how powerful it is! This is my first bottle to purchase, but I will be buying it again.
FRE Moisturize Me
The last FRE product on this list to day is the moisturize me intense repair cream (code alexisroch for 40% off). You might be wondering why this one is ALWAYS on my list…well, it is the absolute best for deep hydrating and repair, so I admit that I use it ALL the time. This was released a year ago, and I have used about 4 containers of it. I already purchased more too.
Good Science Beauty Skin Firming Cream
I can’t even count the number of bottles of GSB’s Skin Firming Cream I have used now. It can be used with any product, and makes the perfect addition to your yearly skincare routine. This skin firm cream will firm, hydrate, and plump your skin. It can also be used around your eyes! I highly recommend this. Use my code chemistrycachet30 at checkout for $24 off!
MAREE Under Eye Balm
I have used this brand’s under eye patches and face masks, so I decided to try their under eye balm as well. I was intrigued to try this with the ingredients like retinol and hyaluronic acid. Retinol is typically strong and drying, but this is formulated at a very low dose making it safe for the eyes. I really like this! The texture of it is like a bees wax, so it goes on smooth and not greasy at all. It hydrates and tightens up your eyes very well. I will repurchase this too!
Dental Probiotic
Y’all have seen me talk about this one many times now. It has become a staple in my home. This is great for anyone who struggles with cavities, sensitive teeth, gum issues, and more. I started using this dental probiotic(use code CHEMISTRY for a discount) in pregnancy to help with sensitive teeth and bleeding gums. It cleared those issues up within a few weeks. Long-term, it has helped with tarter build up and more! You can check out this instagram highlight video I did last year.
MaeLove Anitoxidant Serum
The last item on this list is the Maelove antioxidant serum. I had a few readers requests for this one since it is popular on Instagram right now. The ingredients looked good, and it also contains ferulic acid which is a great antioxidant. However, this one irritated my skin and caused some eczema on my cheeks and chin. I went ahead and finished the bottle just to see, but this one won’t be a repurchase for me. It is also a thinner consistency, which I don’t like for a serum. I am trying out several of their products, so I will report back other items from this brand soon.
Please let me know if you have any brand testing requests!

Hi Alexis! Thank you for the discount codes, all the testing you do, and for sharing the results. I have purchased some of the products you have reviewed (Fre moisturize me [morning] and hydrate me [bedtime], and the Good Science skin firming cream [both am and pm]). I like them very much. How do you personally use them? Do you alternate between them or use them together?
Alexis says
That is a great question! I do alternate and rotate skin products off a don, but I have found the moisturize me, hydrate me, and firming cream work so well together. I use the firming cream first due to its lighter texture, then follow up with moisturize me. I use the nighttime one about 3 days per week 🙂 Let me know if I can answer anything else!
