It has been awhile since we published a skincare post because I have been busy trying some skincare products for hydrating dry skin!
I have been testing out many things the last year specifically for dry skin. This is one of my biggest struggles with my skin, and many of our readers have asked about this too.
My skin is really dry in the winter and summer months. Pretty much all year!
A few of these products we have talked about before, but they are must haves for this post because of how well they work for intense hydration. Some of the products are new, and I haven’t talked about them yet.

Skincare Products For Hydrating Dry Skin
After we share some of our favorite products for super dry skin, be sure to read the information at the bottom. We are going to talk a little bit about using these products in the correct order plus some other tools you can use!
1. L’Oreal Collagen Cream
My mom and I have been using this cream for six years or so. Out of all the drug store moisturizers I have used, this is by far the best! It is creamy and thick, but NOT greasy. My mom is so picky about skincare products, and most of the ones she tries, she doesn’t like. So, for her to say she likes this, it is good. I went about a year without using this cream because I was trying out some other products, and I could tell a difference when I got back to it. It really helps dry skin on your face! It is so affordable too. We buy it from Amazon.
2. Fleur & Bee Daily Face Cream
This cream is definitely a must for this post because it is non-toxic and natural, but really brings hydration to your skin. Some of the key ingredients in this face cream are sunflower seed oil (more on this a few paragraphs down) and squalane. Anytime you see ingredients like this in a face cream, you are going to get some great hydration and nourishing for dry skin. I love this face cream, and it has been great for dry skin.
3. Rosewater Toner
This is another Fleur & Bee product I have been using since last year. Rosewater is absolutely incredible for dry skin! You can read this post on the chemistry, benefits, and how to make your own. I have not had a good crop of roses this year, so I have been buying this. I use this every morning before face cream, and it intensifies the hydrating aspect. It also smells wonderful!
4. Good Science Beauty Skin Firming Cream
I shared this brand last year, and I continue to use it because it works so well. The two I have used are the hydrating face cream, and the skin firming cream. They both do wonders for hydrating dry skin because they utilize a unique carrier (silicon) to penetrate the skin. This is a luxury product, but definitely worth the price. One bottle can last me over 6 months because you don’t need that much! My mom loves this one too which says a lot š
5. Watermelon Glow Sleeping Mask
I have been using this mask for about 3 years now. The hyaluronic acid it contains provides deep hydration overnight. It also contains gentle AHAs which exfoliate. When I use it at night, my skin is so hydrated in the morning. I use it a few nights a week, so this jar lasts a long time. It also smells absolutely amazing, like fresh watermelon!
6. Caffeinated Coconut Oil
This is actually a homemade product, but it continues to be a favorite! Not only does it hydrate skin, but it also plumps it up! If you struggle with extra dry skin, this is a good edition.
7. Peter Thomas Roth Rose Face Mask
This is one of the most luxurious face masks I have used! First, it smells heavenly. Like fresh roses! It has a gel like texture, but feels so soft on your skin. I use this for 10 minutes in the morning a few times a week. You can also leave it on all night. It uses rose stem technology for intense hydration. I love it!
8. Squalane Oil
A few years ago, we shared this post on squalane oil because it is one of the most beneficial oils for dry skin! It is also really good for anyone who struggles with breakouts and can’t use many oily products. I ran out of this oil last year, but bought some again. It is good to have on hand. Be sure to read this full post on squalane oil to learn about using it and how it works!
9. Sunflower Oil
The last product on our list today is sunflower oil! If you turn over a skincare product or even body wash made for dry skin, you will probably see sunflower oil as an ingredient because it hydrates skin so well. I bought this pure sunflower oil recently, and I love it! It has been so great for dry skin around my nose and forehead. You can use it to remove makeup or just dab in on after you use all of your skin products. We will be doing an in-depth chemistry based post on sunflower oil soon! Keep an eye out.
How to Apply Skincare Products Step by Step
This is a common question from readers when it comes to skincare products. You can click on this link and read our post for step by step details on how to apply products so you skin can get the most of out it. A good rule of thumb is water based products first and oil based last. This post breaks it down for you!
Skincare Gadgets That Also Help Dry Skin
Along with these skincare products for hydrating dry skin, you can also try some new skincare gadgets that exfoliate and help with application. This is a post from a few years ago readers still enjoy!

Just a possibility: It is possible that you have the congenital skin disease ichthyosis (“fish skin disease”). Most doctors want to check you for thyroid deficiency when they see how dry your skin is. Most doctors will never recognize ichthyosis. There is no cure, and “they” are not looking for one. It is most recognizable by sandpaper skin especially on the arms, and scales on the front of the lower legs in winter. If you think you may have it, there is a support foundation: http://www.firstskinfoundation.org/ I had fair results with Lac-Hydrin 12% years ago when that product was prescription only and the pharmacist had to mix it for me (and it burned like fire!).

You have to take fatty acids 1 gram per hundred pounds of weight

Fatty acids are great! I take them for inflammation too š

Wondering if I can use my grounds from making cold brew, or will having soaked grounds in purified water for several days make them not usable.
Alexis says
Used grounds won’t have the same caffeine content, so it is better to use fresh grounds for the caffeinated oil š

Hi Alexis…. I had problems accessing this post when it was originally posted but I finally got to read it. Per your recommendation years ago I started using pure almond oil on my face and skin. It works wonderfully. I also have been using avocado oil, both from NOW products. How do you rate the sunflower oil vs almond and avocado? Iām also looking into hyaluronic products. Does that Fleur and Bee product work well for you?
Alexis says
Sunflower oils is definitely a different type of oil…thinner and more flower based in smell. I would say that sunflower oil is going to be a dryer oil, so better for anyone who might get clogged pores. I also have noticed sunflower oil mixes well with other products, so it is a good option if you want to add a little to a face cream. Almond and avocado are much more thick, so those are my favorite types for make up removal and for all over the body! I think it is worth experimenting to see what your skin reacts better to. I really love using Fleur & Bee products. The face cream and rosewater are definitely my favs!
