The Simple Joy of Springs First Blooms #livethelittlethings

Spring is one of the most welcoming times of year. Although I am have made it a point the last few years to make the most of winter and enjoy it as much as possible, I still get so excited when spring finally arrives, complete with sunshine and flowers.

I have shared a few little snippets of my flowers on instagram recently, but today I am showing you the simple joy of springs first blooms!

The Simple Joy of Springs First Blooms #livethelittlethings

I was a little worried about the climbing roses I have in the backyard after all the storms we’ve had, but they are doing amazing! You can see in the first picture, they just keep growing like crazy! We built a pergola nearby last year, so this year we are going to add a little arbor nearby so these roses can start climbing on them too.

One of my unmistakable signs of spring is the Texas Bluebonnets! We have dozens of them covering the hill behind our house. They are always so cheerful to look at! Anytime you drive down the highway, they are just covering the hills and ditches. Such a pretty sight!

I was so excited to see the first hibiscus blooming this week! I just adore these blooms more than any other I think. They just scream tropical paradise to me! In Texas, they definitely grow best in pots. I have been growing them about ten years now, but it never gets old. To grow your own like this follow my easy hibiscus care tips and how to pot a hibiscus step by step! Even if you only have a patio, these are perfect!

Geraniums are another favorite of mine. They grow so well in the spring and summer especially in the Texas heat. I love how they are starting to bloom now! You can also read my care tips for potted geraniums here!

Tulips don’t last long in Texas, but I love them while they are here. Tulips are definitely the epitome of spring flowers!

Red tip photinias aren’t really a flower, but I love how they produce red leaves too in the spring! I posted this photo on instagram last week and you can see all the red bushes in the background!

I started some seed starters the other day, in my guest bedroom. Crossing my fingers that they work out! These pictures are wonderful!

I am absolutely loving spring this year. Here in Kentucky, many things are blooming earlier than they typically do. Sadly, some of my tulips have not returned but we’ve had a few rough winters – just means I need to get more bulbs in the fall. In Kentucky, we don’t plant anything in pots until after Derby day but I’m already dreaming of my porch planters.

We had a random late freeze last week after 90 degrees, so I am hoping everything will survive. I think it will though! I loving spring this year too. Everything is looking so pretty!

I love spring when all the flowers bloom! Although down here it’s more like when everything turns SUPER green again haha! It rained and overnight everything that was looking like it was dying is now a vibrant green all over again!

It’s amazing how the rain this time of year just greens up everything! I love it!

Ah, spring. Love when the flowers are popping out. The gerbera daisies have been blooming like crazy since February (alternating rain and sunny days). A few weeks ago I cleaned up the rose overgrowth and diseased leaves, and the bushes have gone absolutely bonkers… buds everywhere, and already I cut a dozen of them for inside the house. And the geranium is starting to blossom… last week it was mainly green leaves, now there are red blooms! The green groundcover stuff – not quite grass, not quite weeds – and the jade plants are growing too! Happy gardening! Perfect temps to be outdoors!

Bluebonnets…I’ve seen them everywhere this week on social media. So pretty. Our flowers here in NC are beginning to bloom and pollen is in full force too. I have to say, I love seeing my plants that pop up their green heads each spring coming up. Before the heat and humidity start making them look sad. Hostas are my favorite!

They are really so pretty! I am always so amazed by them. I am enjoying the cooler weather before the heat sets in too! We had some 90s already, but then back into the 30s, so our plants took a toll for sure.

There is nothing more miraculous than the first first blooms of spring, I am so enjoying my roses they are awesome now, but the heat will cause smaller blooms.

Thanks for stopping by #OMHGWW this week!
