Today I am sharing Part II of our staycation! If you missed part I, you can read that here.

Part I was all about the local things we went and did, this installment is all about the things we did at home. Doing activities out of the normal can make you feel like you are on a real vacation without having to go anywhere 🙂

Things to do at home for a wonderful staycation. Staycation recap part II chemistrycachet.comHere is some great Staycation Ideas Fun Things To Do at Home inspiration perfect for everyone to enjoy!

One of my favorite things is a big breakfast on vacation. So, that was one thing we had to recreate at home! We enjoyed a sunrise breakfast outside in the corner garden area complete with waffles, eggs, sausage, bacon, and fruit! It was so nice we lingered outside for awhile, enjoying the cool morning air and reading.

Enjoy a sunrise breakfast in your own backyard. Staycation Ideas on chemistrycachet.comBig Waffle breakfast to enjoy on your staycation on chemistrycachet.comOne day we packed a picnic with some homemade cookies and cream frozen yogurt to have outside in the yard. We sat a blanket down and just enjoyed the sunshine!

Picnic lunch and homemade froyo in the backyard for our staycation chemistrycachet.comSince we are still working on the backyard, we decided to start building our pergola. We drew up some plans, dug the holes, and started building. This may not seem very relaxing, but we love yard work so it was fun to just work all day without having to worry about going somewhere or having to work the next day! I can’t wait to share more of the things we have done to the yard so far!! Oh and I am barefoot in this picture, the white lines on my feet are tan lines 😉 (too much sun this summer!)

Breaking ground on the pergola on chemistrycachet.comWe took many morning and evening walks around the neighborhood. We also walked over to the park a few times. It was nice to just leisurely enjoy the sunset and get some exercise too! In Texas, we usually keep our walking to the mornings and evenings when it is cooler 🙂 Evening walks around the neighborhood chemistrycachet.comLast, we enjoyed some fun movie marathons with homemade popcorn, candy, and drinks. I mentioned in our plans that we liked to do themed movie marathons so for the staycation we did a summer theme, 80s theme, and old thrillers for another 🙂 Popcorn is one of my favorite foods so that is always a must!

Other things we did around the house:

  • read
  • board games
  • cooked some meals together
  • sat on the backporch to watch fireflies and gaze at stars

It was a really great and relaxing time! For other ideas we had, read my elements of a perfect staycation post! And don’t forget to read part I! I hope you are having a wonderful summer!

Hi Alexis – What a great staycation! That breakfast looks delicious. I have a recipe for an eggy pancake in a mug – I eat it at last once a week (will email to you). I think you could do a spin on it. Your morning and evening “landscape” photos are beautiful…

Sounds like you’re making progress on the pergola – can’t wait to see it! When you’re done, would you come to Northern CA and help us on our deck? We have dry rot on the beam supporting the deck boards. Yikes. It’s cooler and drier here! 🙂

    Enjoy your day!

That mug recipe sounds wonderful, can’t wait to see it! The pergola is really coming along, we are hoping to finish it this weekend!! If we lived closer, I would totally come help with your deck 🙂 We definitely don’t experience much of the cool, dry weather here…mainly just hot and dry 🙂 Hope you have a wonderful rest of the week!!

As one who has taken many wonderful ‘staycations’ I LOVE the way that you are showcasing one of the best ways to ‘travel’. You hit it out of the ball park by celebrating the wonderful things can be enjoyed right in your own back yard. Fabulous.

I love movie marathons! The pictures on your walks are beautiful, those clouds! and picnics in the garden?! we have them every summer – weather permitting, UK summers are usually fairly rubbish.

Picnics in the garden are really the best thing!! We can always count on summer in Texas being hot and dry. I bet UK summers are much cooler, which I would love to feel right now 🙂 Its supposed to be 100+ today 🙁
