Today is the very last day of 2015. As I sit here and look back on the year, I am actually a little shocked at all the crazy things that happened. I mean, not your typical crazy things, but many monumental things that made 2015 a strange year to say the least. Most years, I look back on with some smiles, a little sadness, but usually just a sweet feeling of another good year. I guess I feel the same way about 2015, but truthfully, I am glad it is over.
Let me tell about all the crazy things that happened to us in 2015.
The year started off unlike anything other for me with a very mutilated, broken finger. The first months of the year were full of X-rays, surgeon visits and physical therapy. Not to mention, my insurance no longer covered my RA medication, so I was dealing with that pain too.
In February 2015, we had a record snow/ice storm that lasted days. My husband and I shared our 28th birthdays (21st and 26th) stuck in a snow storm in Fort Worth, gridlocked on I-35. All so he could go to Cabella’s for a new gun. We did make it to cabella’s only to find out they didn’t have the gun he wanted. It took us 4 hours to get home (normally 30 minutes). We had no good except pretzels and I am pretty sure my hair was gray when we got home. Luckily we have a 4 wheel drive truck, otherwise we would have been in the ditch like everyone else! Here is our truck outside of the Cabella’s. We said it looked like it was straight out of the movie Fargo!
Texas weather brought about some more weirdness in May when we had record breaking tornadoes, hails, flooding (like catastrophic), and wind. I remember the first tornado happened on a Sunday when I went to visit my parents house with Ruger. My husband was at work, so I just took a drive there. The sirens went off three times that evening and we spend hours in the hallway, with both the dogs as the tornado raged above us.
My Dad actually has a video on his phone of the funnel cloud circulating above our house…creepy!
This was on a friends facebook page of the hail that we got. It literally looked like it had snowed too!
That happened so much in May, I grew used to the sounds of tornado sirens. Those storms brought so much hail, that is totaled our brand new car. And the flooding was so intense we almost lost our 8 foot tall 40 foot long retaining rock wall which had to be rebuilt in June. We almost didn’t make it to my friend’s wedding in Austin that May due to the flooding!
Right after we discovered our car was totaled from hail, our plumbing went out the next day. We were without modern conveniences for days while they figured out what was wrong.
That same time, lightening had killed our DVD player and TV in the bedroom, so we bought a new set.
The following month my computer died on me in the middle of blogging. I took it in to get it fixed and somehow, they shattered the screen while it was being repaired. So, I was out of a computer for a month, but I did get a new one finally.
Shortly after, my big, over the oven microwave went out.
My husband began a new career journey in November which has been a blessing, but it has been the hardest, most difficult thing he has done since he was in the marine corps. He will be done training in July, so we will continue to pray he gets through it.
This year ended with an 80 degree Christmas Day, terrible flooding, tornadoes that tore apart DFW, and snow on Monday!
It is funny when you look back on all these “bad” things that happen, you see blessings from them. For instance, that snow storm in February caused me to miss a job interview that I didn’t get and ultimately caused me to start this blog.
Or, our car being totaled from the hail storm has caused us to take 3 years off the payments.
My computer being shattered during it’s repair allowed me to get a new one that was bigger, better and faster!
Getting to stay home to help my husband on his new career journey since I have started a career at home.
So, I guess this year was crazy, but full of blessings too. God works in mysterious ways 🙂
On that note, I want to thank everyone of my readers for starting this blogging journey with me and taking an interest in learning from a chemist! I knew long ago that having Rheumatoid Arthritis would change my life, making things more difficult, but it also blessed me life.
Now I am a chemist and blogging is the best adventure so far! I have so many fun, exciting, and awesome projects for 2016. I will be sharing some first hand behind the scenes in my newsletter coming out in a week or two.
In the meantime, Happy New Year!

Happy pre New Year Alexis! What a kerfluffle of adventures you and your family had in 2015! I hope 2016 is a bit more “sedate”. God is good and faithful and merciful; He watches over us during the highs and lows, scary and fun events in life. He led me to your blog, and I’ve enjoyed reading and “talking” to you.
