Super Easy Sweet Potato Dog Treats

I’m always making little treats for my husband like this healthy chocolate fudge cake for two or this easy dairy free dutch brownie, but I love to make special treats for the other guy in my life…Ruger the Bulldog. You see his precious face often on instagram and I always share our behind the scenes in my newsletter, but he really is part of my family.

I love to make things for him too, like this super easy sweet potato dog treats!

I have been making these for awhile, and he eats them up so fast! One of his favorite foods in the world is sweet potato (and watermelon). Whenever I make sweet potato for dinner, he starts salivating immediately! I’m not sure how he knows, but anytime I buy them at the store, he heads straight for that grocery bag.

These treats are really healthy for your dog and they are very affordable to make every week if you wanted too.

Plus, these are perfect as little Valentine’s Day treats. I used these graduated heart shaped cookie cutters, but you can use anything you have. Just make sure it is something smaller, so it will be the perfect size treat.

Super Easy 4 Ingredient Sweet Poato Dog Treats that you can whip up in minutes!

Super Easy Sweet Potato Dog Treats

  • 1 medium sweet potato, baked until soft
  • 3/4 cup coconut flour
  • 2 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp cinnamon

Super Easy Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Directions:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray a cooking sheet with coconut oil spray.

I bake my sweet potato in the microwave for about 8 minutes until soft, but you can also do it the oven, it will just take longer.

Scrap out the middle of the sweet potato, you can keep some skin too. Mix the potato around in a bowl until it is pureed texture. Add in the coconut flour, coconut oil, and cinnamon and stir until just combined. It will resemble sticky cookie dough or bread dough.

Flour a surface with coconut flour, and roll out this dough until it is pretty thin. The thinner, the more crunchy this will be after baking. If you make them thicker, that is okay too, they will just be a softer, bread like texture. Ruger loves them either way!

Super Easy Sweet Potato Dog Treats

Cut out shapes and lay on your baking sheet.

Bake about 20-30 minutes depending on what type of consistency you want. The longer they are in, the crunchier they will be. It is REALLY hard to mess these up 🙂

I love how these are so easy to make! I love buying Ruger grain free food and treats, but sometimes it can get really expensive! Making them at home is the perfect alternative!

If you follow on instagram, you have probably seen many pictures of Ruger, but we love him so much and we want him to live a long, happy life!

I’ll have to pass this along to my Mom so she can give it a try for our dog! Sadly I don’t think my cat would be too impressed!

I hope she gets to try it! Your dog will enjoy 🙂 Oddly enough, my mom’s cat ate these up like candy lol. Of course, their cat is 20 years old and she really thinks she is a dog!!! Their cat also loves bacon strips 🙂

These look good, even for humans! Have you eaten one? My senior girl LOVES sweet potatoes, and also organic shredded unsweetened coconut from Trader Joes. I bet she would go nuts for these. Instead of coconut flour, could I put the shredded coconut into the food processor and make my own coconut flour? Just curious (and being lazy). Thanks for the recipe!

She will really love these! I bet you could try that with the coconut flakes…it won’t be as gritty as coconut flour which is made from all the coconut parts, so the treats may be more soft and could fall apart easier, but they would still be delicious! Humans can eat it too….but it is REALLY bland lol (I tasted!). Let me know how your girl likes them!

These look awesome! I know that my puppy would love to try them out. I’ll have to pick up some sweet potatoes and coconut flour at the store this week to make him some. I think it’s so cute how you cut them out to be heart shapes too. 🙂

Thanks for the recipe which I will try soon. I make all our dogs’ treats- at home- from scratch- so I know what’s actually in them! I used to spread out the dough and use a little doggy bone shaped cookie cutter or other cookie cutter shapes which takes quite a bit of time due to the constant need to re-roll the dough. Then one day I was in a hurry and I just used a knife to cut the dough into strips not caring too much if they turned out uneven or had funny edges. Surprisingly, none of the little beggars even noticed! So, now when I make them I go down dog bone easy street.
