Things to Love About Winter in TexasGrowing up, I was a summer girl all the way. The longer I could be outside playing, the better! Except for the month of December…I prayed each year that December would be cold, even snowy, so it would really capture the Christmas spirit.

I actually remember many, many Christmas seasons that were so warm, it really bummed me out. This is one of those seasons for sure. I mean, we never get snow in Texas, but this warm weather makes it feel like spring. Last weekend it was 80 degrees!

The warm temperatures always remind me of a particular Christmas. It was probably 1997 or 1998, the year when wind suites were the thing. If you didn’t have a Nike or Adidas wind suite, you were nothing! So, when Christmas morning dawned and one of my gifts was a beautiful black and yellow wind suite, I was pumped! I immediately put it on, my little brother got all his new winter gear on, and we ran outside to try it out. And…it was at least 80 degrees. Way to hot to wear it and I remember specifically the day I finally got to wear it too school was in February when winter hit!

So, the moral of the story, each holiday season, we have to make the most of our winter in Texas whether it is warm, cold, rainy, or ice (it can literally be any of those in the same week!).

Here are 5 of my favorite things about winter in Texas! Follow on instagram for more of our winter shenanigans!

Raking Leaves

By the time December roles around, the leaves are finally looking vibrant with fall color, and floating to the ground. I personally love leaves, so anytime I can jump around in them, rake them, or listen to the crunch under my feet, I definitely get into it.

Winter in TexasGotta Love Winter in TexasDecorating my Christmas Tree!

I told you all about my favorite Christmas traditions, but the ritual of decorating the tree is really one of the best! It doesn’t matter what the weather is like outside, the minute you come inside it is like a Christmas wonderland!

Decorating the Christmas Tree, Winter in TexasLounging around the house!

Winter is really the perfect excuse for lounging around the house. In the summer, spring and fall, there is way to much gardening and yard work to do outside, so I can’t sit still long enough to truly relax. This is the time of year for being cozy and comfy by the (hopefully soon) fire, enjoying the soft glow of the tree and being with your loved ones. Sitting around reading is also one of my favorite activities in winter!

Winter in TexasThe one time or less a year it does snow, everything SHUTS down!

If we get a hint of snow, or ice, everything shuts down. I love it! The last few years, we have gotten some pretty serious ice storms in late February or March. I would rather have that during the Christmas season, but it is fun to have an excuse for a snow day!

On the flip side, it is fun just being able to sit in the sunshine in the winter. Not many places get that, so I love having that option. Last weekend after Christmas shopping, we took the bulldog outside to play fetch. We sat in the back yard for hours in the 70 degree weather 🙂

I am loving Warby Parker’s winter collection! I did the home try on program to get five pairs to check out for free. I’m thinking at least one or two of these I will have to keep for sure! Especially the sunglasses! 😉 #warbyholiday

What’s your favorite thing about winter where you are from?

We’ve been experiencing some warm weather here in Philadelphia (which I am sure is normal in Texas) but it is really throwing me off this year! I love your sunglasses in the last picture!

I agree. When it snows here in NC, everything comes to a halt. For days. With like one inch of snow. So I take advantage of that time to read, catch up and just enjoy doing nothing.

I’m all about 70 degree weather. I know people like it to be cold or wintery around Christmas but I’m not complaining about the warmth.

I live in San Antonio, where it’s gets the cold wind that feels like it’s going to cut you into ribbons. Snow and Ice are foreign things here and if they do happen by we have the worst drivers EVER! Not sure what part of Texas you live in ….However like you we are getting the 80 degree weather and our knock out roses are confused and blooming…wierd! But I can’t complain as I would rather be in the south than up north where it really gets crazy….smile.

We have family that lives in SA, so we have spent some Christmas’s there and I know what you mean! We live in the DFW area so we never know what type of weather we may get 🙂 My roses are blooming too…they are just confused!

Happy Winter (officially)! SF Bay Area weather has been mainly in the 50s lately, with alternating days of rain with wind. Temperatures are in the “seasonal normal” as the weather people say. I don’t mind raking leaves, but not if they are wet and stuck to the ground/lawn. Like your glasses and the sunglasses. I just got new (ahem) reading glasses – part of getting old(er). Christmas is coming up FAST…

I moved away from the cold so I love the warmer Christmases so we can enjoy sitting outside for dessert and games. I still can’t believe how unseasonably warm it’s been this year all over the country. My parents up in CT said it was almost 70 and they’ve had their windows open which is unheard of for December!
