The most requested blog post I had this year was so share the new baby’s birth story!

You can read Amelia’s birth story here. Also, my postpartum story with her here.

Since not everyone has Instagram, I wanted to do a blog post for you sharing everything about his birth.

If you do have Instagram, be sure to follow us there for daily photos, videos, and behind the scenes.

Tucker’s Birth Story

October 23rd

It is amazing how you can plan for something so well, but God has other plans. I was originally scheduled for a C-section October 25th.

We had big plans for the last few days before he was born including cleaning the house, doing a few things with Amelia, and getting the room all ready for him to come home.

I woke up on Sunday morning, October 23rd feeling pretty good. I am an early riser, so around 5:15 I ate some breakfast. I was excited for the day because the weather was supposed to be really nice and not hot. I thought it would be the perfect day to spend outside getting things done and playing with Amelia, maybe a nice long walk too.

After breakfast, I started feeling a little off. Then, I started bleeding. I immediately called my hospital and talked with the doctor. She said it was best to come in.

We drove Amelia to my parents house, then headed straight for the hospital around 6:30am that morning. I could tell I was starting to go into labor, but I insisted on driving us to the hospital. My husband laughed at my stubbornness about always having to be the one to drive! He said well, driving yourself to the hospital in labor, that is definitely something you would do.

At The Hospital

We got to the hospital, and it was obvious I was in labor. I started having pretty regular contractions. I started dilating pretty quickly once the contractions picked up.

Since I had eaten breakfast though, I had to wait at least six hours before they could do the surgery! That was a bummer, but I had no idea I would go into labor that morning. Anyways, as I waited to go into surgery, I continued to have contractions.

They finally got me ready for surgery after the right time had passed.

All of the staff was seriously SO incredible and kind. I was nervous and scared, but they made it better. I can’t say enough praise to them for their kindness. My husband was blown away by them too. Such wonderful people.

Tucker Hayes Rochester made his appearance at 12:24pm on Sunday. He weighed 7lbs 13oz! Over 1 lb bigger than Amelia!

We were immediately so in love with this boy!

Recovering In The Hospital

With my first cesarian, they just had me on morphine immediately after the surgery. This time, they did nerve blockers on each side, and there was no morphine or anything given after surgery.

When I got through with recovery, they wanted me to get up and walk just a bit. This is when I discovered one of my nerve blockers DID NOT work. I had horrible pain through my left side.

It took all day to get my pain management under control.

The next few days were really rough. I had really bad pain on the left side of my incision, so getting up and using the bathroom was torture.

My OBGYN had to do a local injection into my incision on the left side.

This helped a lot, but I had to stay an extra day in the hospital. He was going to do another injection in the incision that was more powerful, but I felt like I was doing well enough to go home.

We came home on Wednesday (which I immediately regretted because the pain picked back up).

This was a much harder surgery and recovery than my first one was. I was not expecting it to be more difficult, so I wasn’t mentally prepared at all.

Postpartum

The postpartum journey has been a tough one as well. I will not sugar coat it, but it has been emotionally and physically hard. After we got home from the hospital, the pain was so bad, I almost went back to the hospital. Sitting down to use the bathroom was the hardest thing!

I just pushed through it over the next few days, and it started to get better.

Over a week after Tucker was born, I suddenly had some intense bleeding that was concerning. I had an emergency visit to the doctor, and he said my uterus wasn’t clamping down enough. The interesting thing was I did not bleed much at all during surgery or after. In fact, the surgery staff was marveling at how little I bled! They said they had never seen that before lol I credit it to pilates.

My doctor prescribed me some medication to help the uterus clamp down, but it appeared no one in town had it in stock! By the end of that day, one pharmacy in town went to the hospital to pick up the medication. The hospital only had six pills in stock too. I didn’t get to take the medicine until the end of that day.

By that time, I had bled so much, I was starting to get concerned. I almost went to the ER, but I decided to give the medicine a few more hours to work. Later that night, it finally kicked in and the bleeding slowed.

The next day, I felt very sick and dizzy from blood loss. It took a few days to recover from that. I can finally said I am feeling and doing better, but it has been a journey that’s for sure!

It is all worth it for our sweet boy Tucker.
