This time of year, I LOVE all things watermelon. Today, I want to share with you some great watermelon based skincare products PLUS how it benefits your skin!

Watermelon is such a neat fruit. It is beautiful to look at, but it also smells and tastes amazing!

We have covered numerous things on watermelon throughout the years. Like how watermelon seeds are incredibly good for you or this watermelon milkshake which is a favorite of mine!

Watermelon based skincare products are also very unique and beneficial for your skin. There are so many scientific reasons watermelon is useful for topical use, so I will go into detail on that. Plus, I want to share with you my favorite products. Some of these smell like watermelon, others are infused with watermelon as a main ingredient. Either way, they are great!

I have had many readers asking about fruit based skincare tips on instagram, so I wanted to start with my favorite summer fruit.

What Does Watermelon Do To The Skin?

Watermelon does a few things for your skin. Because we love science on Chemistry Cachet, we want to talk about the science based watermelon skincare benefits. When you analyze the chemistry of something, it proves WHY it works.

Although watermelon contains dozens of substances, I want to focus on a few key chemicals that makes it a powerhouse for skin.

Vitamins

First up, watermelon contains a high level of vitamin A, vitamin B6, vitamin C, and vitamin E. In fact, Medical News Today, says one cup of watermelon is 21% vitamin C and 17% vitamin A.  As you know from our past articles, vitamin C used topically on the skin is amazing for brightening and tightening.

Fun fact about Vitamin A, it is part of a group which includes including retinol, retinal, and retinyl esters. Vitamin A is very popular for skincare due to it’s anti-aging benefits.

These other vitamins work to nourish your skin promoting collagen growth which gives skin a healthier, youthful appearance.

Lycopene

Watermelon is most known for the high lycopene content. According to Watermelon.Org, It has the highest amount compared to any fruit! In skincare terms, lycopene is fantastic as an anti-inflammatory. It can soothe, smooth, and brighten skin!

Citrulline

This is an amino acid which helps circulation in the body. Citrulline increase the level of Arginine (another amino acid) in the body. Arginine is a fantastic antioxidant booster for skin by helping protect from free radicals. It is also known to promote hair growth! If you want to dig into the incredible science behind arginine for your skin, check out this article from Science Direct. The chemical process is so neat!

Watermelon Based Skincare Products

After looking at the science, you can see that watermelon is beneficial for your skin! The cool thing is there are so many good quality skincare products that contain watermelon to achieve results. Here are my watermelon beauty products!

Hydrating Watermelon face mask

This is a really neat face mask! It nourishes, hydrates, brightens, and tightens skin. Plus, it smells AMAZING!!!! You will love it.

What a Melon Overnight Facial Mask

I really love this brand for facial masks. This watermelon based one is my favorite! It softens and tightens the skin overnight. This has a great texture to it and feels great going on.

Watermelon Clay Mask

Clay masks are great for pores and blackheads, but this one is infused with watermelon extract, so it is even better. I love the packaging because it makes it easy to use. It is very affordable, and you don’t need much for each use!

SKIN FOOD Freshmade Watermelon Face Mask

This is a Korean face mask. It smells great and works hydrate, minimize pores, and brighten skin.

Glow Recipe Overnight Face Mask

Okay, last face mask on this list! This one is a little pricier than the others I have listed, but it is worth it! I have had the SAME jar for a few years, that is how long it will last you. When you put this on at night, it smooths, brightens, tightens, and exfoliates the skin. In the morning, just wash it off and it is amazing how great your skin looks. I use this once a week or every two weeks.

Majestic Pure Watermelon Body Scrub

This is a great body scrub! It contains watermelon powder, so it doesn’t have a scent like watermelon, but it works great. It exfoliates skin gently, but also tightens and smooths.

Sephora Watermelon Lip Balm

This lip balm scrubs and smooths lips to prepare for lipstick! It makes your lips so soft! It extract.

Watermelon Mint Lip Balm

Another great lip balm! It makes your lips SO soft!

Watermelon Face Wipes

These face wipes are infused with watermelon extract, so they are very soothing for your skin! It is a great way to clean your skin at the end of the day (plus the packaging is cute).

Mrs. Meyer’s Watermelon Foaming Hand Soap

I love this soap! It smells so good! I love keeping it in the kitchen.

Watermelon Bar Soap

This soap is so pretty, and it also smells JUST like watermelon!

What About DIY Watermelon Skincare Options:

Sometimes, you can create your own products home. While it would be hard to mimic a watermelon face mask at home, you can create a moisturizer or even add watermelon scent to anything homemade.

Did you catch this post we had a few weeks ago about how homemade skincare options aren’t always safe? Well, in the instance of watermelon you have to remember it is sugary and mostly water. It is the extracts and seed oil that work best. You won’t get the same impact by just putting straight watermelon fruit on your skin.

Instead, here are my favorite DIY options below:

Organic Watermelon Seed Oil

You can do so much with this watermelon seed oil! It is great for putting directly onto your hair or skin! You can also mix it in with a few things. If you want to make a face scrub, you can add a few drops into some baking soda, then gently rub your face.

It is also great to mix with other oils like almond oil or rosehip oil to get a very soothing, soft mixture for your face!

This oil is very soft, not too thick, but great for all skin types. This oil has NO scent!

Watermelon Scented Oil

If you want to make homemade soaps or add this to a body scrub, you can buy this delicious smelling watermelon scented oil. It smells just like fresh watermelon. All you need is a few drops added to something to get that scent. I know people who like making their own soap, this makes a great addition.

In Conclusion

Now you have everything you need to enjoy some wonderful watermelon skincare products this summer! You will enjoy all of these products and amazing benefits of watermelon for your skin! Be sure to join us on instagram and instagram stories for more fun skincare tips based on science.

Fascinating that watermelon ? is used in so many skin products! I love the smell of watermelon ?. I’m interested in the sleep mask and the lip balm. Does Ruger sniff you with the mask on? I’m cautious as I think Daisy might try to lick my face!
